Today's post is one that's bittersweet. One chapter comes to a close, while another opens. Back in 2004, a committee of volunteers from the Hebron Hose Co #1 set out to design a new engine / pumper to replace our GMC Engine. Several members put their heart into the design of this piece, ensuring it fit the needs of South Lebanon Township, for years to come. The committee sat down with several fire apparatus manufacturers to ensure that the new engine would have everything they believed was important for the future of the fire service in South Lebanon.
After many meetings, the committee signed a contract with Seagrave to build the new pumper. Engine 26 was born. In early-2006, our new Seagrave Marauder was delivered and after training, was placed into service.
It served as Engine 26 until the new SLFC #1 was formed, when Avon and Hebron merged. It then became Wagon 48 and it has served in that capacity until just a few weeks ago when we took delivery of our new 2026 Pierce Enforcer Engine / Squad and placed it into service.
Yesterday, Wagon 48 was sold to the City of Lebanon, PA Government to serve as a "new to them" Engine. A 20 year legacy of Wagon 48 has come to an end, but her service is not over.
We promised you that Wagon 48 would remain local and are happy that it will remain so, being operated by the Lebanon Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 1952 and volunteers of the Lebanon Bureau of Fire. We hope that your new engine will serve you and the citizens of Lebanon City for many years to come.
The members of the SLFD know that our "War Wagon" is in good hands and rest assured that if the need arises, it will continue to serve South Lebanon Township under our mutual aid agreement with Lebanon City.
