A safety plan is personal—there is no single “right” way to seek safety. It may include identifying a trusted person, keeping important documents or medications accessible, arranging a code word, and knowing where to go in an emergency. A trained advocate can help make a plan that fits your situation.

🍂 Cool mornings call for a quick car seat check. 🍂

Bulky coats can compress in a crash and leave extra room under the harness. Keep little ones warm and safely buckled:

- Dress them in thin layers
- Buckle and tighten the harness so you can’t pinch extra webbing at the shoulder
- Add a blanket over the buckled harness, keeping their face uncovered

Remove bulky coats before buckling up, and always follow your car seat’s instructions!

Many germs that can make people sick are spread when we don't wash our hands with soap and clean, running water. That is why handwashing is so important, especially at key times such as after using the bathroom, when preparing food, before eating, and after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose.

💜 Wear purple. Show support.💜

Today, October 15, is Purple Thursday! During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, wearing purple is one way to honor survivors, remember lives lost, and show that support is here.

Support can start with everyday actions:
💜 Listen with kindness and without judgment.
💜 Respect a survivor’s choices.
💜 Help someone find resources when they’re ready.

Everyone deserves safety and respect in their relationships. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic or sexual violence, confidential support is available 24/7 through Virginia’s Statewide Hotline:

📞 Call 1-800-838-8238
💬 Text 804-793-9999
