Ombudsman as Advocates
Monday, October 26th
1-1:45 PM at the Lebanon Senior Center

Concerned about a friend or loved one’s rights that lives in a residential facility but not sure who to talk to? Have a heart for helping seniors speak up if they feel their rights are in question? The Office of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman (OLTCO) may be the right fight for your skills and passion. This organization is a volunteer-based, independent state agency that provides free advocacy services to residents of nursing homes, memory care, and assisted living facilities. Residents of these facilities have rights and ombudsman volunteers can help protect them while improving the quality of their care.
This presentation will cover what this agency does for Oregon and how to volunteer. OLTCO is also partnered with the Senior Medicare Patrol, which helps prevent Medicare fraud, waste, and abuse. This presentation will also contain information about keeping your information safe and your identity protected---good for all seniors to know.

Connecting Kids to Your Generation - Center FIeld Trip to 8th Grade Class
Thursday, October 22nd 9:15-11:45am
8th grade English students of East Linn Christian Middle School are hoping to interview some seniors as part of a writing project.
Their project seeks to:
* Build community by honoring the stories of senior citizens in their community so
that they can create a narrative essay with deeper meaning,
* Record the common childhood milestones from the lives of those who have lived in
a different time period and their own life.

We need 15 seniors to volunteer to share some of their life story with a local 8th grader.
While helping with their project, you may just help bridge a gap between generations and find you have some things in common despite digital changes. Sign up by calling 541-258-4919 or emailing [email protected] before Monday, October 19th.
