Today, Lower Kiski Ambulance Service joins communities across the country in recognizing Save a Life Day — a day dedicated to overdose awareness, prevention, and making lifesaving naloxone more accessible.

Naloxone (Narcan) saves lives. It can quickly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and provide critical time for EMS to arrive and continue lifesaving care.

Recognizing the signs of an overdose and knowing how to respond can make all the difference.

If you suspect an overdose:
• Call 911 immediately
• Administer naloxone if available
• Follow the 911 dispatcher’s instructions
• Stay with the person until help arrives

There is no shame in asking for help, carrying naloxone, or being prepared to save someone’s life. Addiction can affect individuals, families, and communities everywhere.

At Lower Kiski Ambulance Service, our mission is simple: protect lives, serve our community, and be there when we are needed most.

Today is a reminder that sometimes saving a life starts with simply being prepared.

Over the coming months, residents may notice a number of super load transport trucks traveling through our area as they make their way from Schenley to Homer City. These oversized loads will be travel through Leechburg and surrounding communities and may result in temporary traffic delays or restricted access along portions of the route.

The Lower Kiski Ambulance Service is working to make sure these transports have as little impact as possible on our ability to respond to emergencies.

During times when the super loads are traveling through Leechburg, we will strategically reposition our ambulance crews throughout our service area. This will help ensure that our ambulances remain on the appropriate side of any temporary traffic restrictions and can respond to emergency calls as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Our priority remains providing uninterrupted emergency medical coverage to the communities we serve. We will continue to monitor the scheduled transports and adjust our ambulance positioning as necessary.

We ask motorists to use caution around these oversized loads, follow the directions of traffic-control personnel, and allow additional travel time when transports are moving through the area.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure our crews remain ready to respond when you need us.

Today marks 25 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

The Lower Kiski Ambulance Service joins our nation in remembering the lives that were lost, the families forever changed, and the countless first responders, military members, healthcare professionals, and ordinary citizens who answered the call to help others during one of the darkest days in our nation’s history.

We honor the courage and sacrifice of the firefighters, EMS professionals, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, and others who ran toward danger when so many were trying to escape it. We also remember those who continued to suffer from illnesses and injuries related to their service in the years that followed.

Twenty-five years later, the lessons of September 11 remain with us — courage, service, sacrifice, unity, and the importance of standing together when our communities and our country need us most.

May we never forget those we lost, those who served, and the strength our nation showed in the days that followed.

We Remember. We Honor. We Will Never Forget.

šŸŽ’šŸšŒ BACK-TO-SCHOOL SAFETY REMINDER šŸšŒšŸŽ’

As students across our community head back to the classroom, Lower Kiski Ambulance Service would like to remind everyone to take a few extra moments each day to help keep our children safe.

DRIVERS
• Slow down and stay alert in school zones and residential areas.
• Watch closely for children walking, biking, or waiting at bus stops.
• Never pass a school bus when its red lights are flashing and stop arm is extended.
• Avoid distractions—put the phone down and keep your attention on the road.
• Allow yourself a little extra travel time during morning and afternoon school traffic.

AT THE BUS STOP
• Children should stay a safe distance away from the roadway while waiting.
• Wait until the bus has completely stopped before approaching it.
• Never walk behind a school bus.
• When crossing in front of a bus, make sure the driver can see you before proceeding.

WALKING OR BIKING TO SCHOOL
• Use sidewalks and designated crosswalks whenever possible.
• Look left, right, and left again before crossing the street.
• Avoid looking at phones or wearing headphones while crossing roadways.
• Bicyclists should always wear a properly fitted helmet.

PARENTS & CAREGIVERS
Take a few minutes to review your child’s route to school, bus stop location, emergency contacts, and what they should do if plans unexpectedly change.

The start of a new school year is an exciting time. A little extra patience, awareness, and caution from all of us can make a big difference in keeping our students safe.

Lower Kiski Ambulance Service wishes all of our local students, teachers, school staff, and families a safe, healthy, and successful school year!

Lower Kiski Ambulance Service is proud to congratulate Paramedic Ramos and EMT Lowman on receiving the Russel Davis Valor and Service Award from the Western Pennsylvania Firemen’s Association.

This recognition was presented for their actions during a cardiac arrest late last year, where their training, teamwork, and commitment to patient care contributed to a successful save.

Moments like this demonstrate the dedication our providers bring to the community every day. Cardiac arrest calls require rapid decision-making, effective teamwork, and everyone working toward the same goal, giving the patient the best possible chance for survival.

We are incredibly proud to see Ramos and Lowman recognized for their efforts and for the outstanding care they provided when it mattered most.

Please join us in congratulating Paramedic Ramos and EMT Lowman on this well-deserved honor!

Congratulations from everyone at the Lower Kiski Ambulance Service!

Smoke from the Canadian wildfires has moved into our region, leading to reduced air quality. While everyone can be affected by poor air quality, those with asthma, COPD, emphysema, heart disease, older adults, young children, and pregnant individuals are at greater risk for health complications.

If you have a respiratory condition, consider these tips:
šŸ’Ø Stay indoors as much as possible and keep windows and doors closed.
ā„ļø Run your air conditioning on the recirculation setting if available, and use a clean air filter.
😷 If you must spend time outdoors, consider wearing a well-fitting N95 mask, which can help filter fine smoke particles.
🚶 Avoid strenuous outdoor activities such as exercising, yard work, or prolonged exposure.
šŸ’Š Continue taking prescribed medications and always keep rescue inhalers readily available.
šŸ’§ Stay well hydrated.

Seek medical attention or call 911 immediately if you experience:

Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath that is worsening

Chest pain or pressure

Severe wheezing that is not relieved by your rescue inhaler

Blue lips or fingertips

Confusion, dizziness, or loss of consciousness

Even if you don’t have a chronic respiratory condition, wildfire smoke can cause eye irritation, coughing, sore throat, headaches, and shortness of breath. If symptoms become severe, don’t ignore them.

The Lower Kiski Ambulance Service encourages everyone to monitor local air quality conditions and take precautions until the smoke clears.

Stay safe, check on your family, friends, and neighbors—especially those who may be more vulnerable—and remember, we’re here whenever you need us.
