The Leesburg Police Department is proud to announce the retirement of Sergeant Michael McDonald, who has dedicated over 20 years of exemplary service to our community. Sergeant McDonald's commitment and contributions have significantly impacted the safety and well-being of Leesburg’s residents.
Sergeant McDonald began his career in law enforcement in 2003 with the Fairfax County Police Department, and in 2008, he joined the Leesburg Police Department. Throughout his career, Sergeant McDonald has served in various capacities including Patrol, Dispatch, Background Investigations, Training, and Recruitment.
He has also provided leadership and supervision in several programs, such as the department's Mobile Command and Communications Center, Fi****ms, Hazmat, and Safety Team programs. Additionally, he has been a member of the Crash Response Team and has served as a Crime Scene Technician.
Along with the above, Sergeant McDonald is certified as a fi****ms instructor, general instructor, OC instructor, and Law Enforcement Hazardous Materials Technician.

DEPUTY CHIEF DAILEY TO SERVE AS INTERIM CHIEF OF POLICE
PURCELLVILLE, Va. April 30, 2024 — With the retirement of Chief McAlister, Dave Dailey will serve as the Interim Chief of Police effective May 1, 2024 until a permanent Chief is identified. Deputy Chief Dailey brings a wealth of experience to this role having served as Deputy Chief for five years, and is well-equipped to lead the department during this period of change. As Interim Chief of Police, Dave will continue to prioritize community engagement, officer well-being, and the effective implementation of strategies to enhance public safety. He will work closely with departmental personnel, local authorities, and community stakeholders to ensure that our Town remains safe.
