Dickinson Classics the official page of the Dickinson College Department of Classical Studies

The Department of Classical Studies at Dickinson emphasizes the study of ancient authors in the original languages and innovative civilization classes that highlight the relevance of classical culture to modern life, art, and thought. In addition to studying the cultural legacy of ancient Greece and Rome, students collaborate with faculty on new research and groundbreaking digital projects, enjoy an active extracurricular life centered around the Classics House, the Eta Sigma Phi honor society, and the Chimera Club, and pursue opportunities for travel and study in Italy and Greece. Skills in writing, speaking, and critical thinking honed by detailed study of the Classics have helped alumni find success in many different professional fields.

New at DCC: William Turpin and Ashley Roman Francese have teamed up to publish the DCC edition of the love elegies of Sulpicia. Included are a Latin text, notes, vocabulary lists, and wonderful audio recordings by Keziah Armstrong. The notes focus on matters of Latin idiom and elucidate Sulpicia's sometimes difficult syntax, with the goal of relatively expeditious reading.
