Our office was closed last Wednesday September 30th so the Planning, Housing and Community Development department could participate in volunteerism and enjoy an appreciation lunch together.

👏We want to congratulate Michelle, a recent Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) graduate. Michelle is still receiving assistance from housing; however, she has been able to create stability and savings while working on personal health issues. The goal is homeownership and Michelle is determined to save for a down payment. We wish her well on the next chapter of life and her continued growth into full self-sufficiency.

Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) is a voluntary program for participants in the Housing Choice Voucher Program. Each participant creates a five-year plan that includes employment goals and identifies training or educational needs.

Su***de prevention starts with connection. A conversation. A check-in. Making space for someone to say they’re struggling and reminding them they don’t have to carry it alone.

This year’s theme, “Changing the Narrative on Su***de,” calls on all of us to move away from silence and stigma and toward openness, understanding and support.
