Congratulations to Firefighters Kason Booth and Mason Bartlett!

This weekend, they successfully completed a 16-hour training course at the Smoky Mountain Weekend Program. Throughout the course, they developed and refined critical firefighter survival skills, including advanced breathing techniques, confidence-building exercises, navigating blackout conditions, and managing entanglement situations resulting from structural collapse.

Their dedication to continuous training and professional development enhances their ability to serve and protect our community safely and effectively. We commend them for their hard work and commitment to excellence in the fire service.

This week, firefighters with the Lenoir City Fire Department and crews from Lenoir City Utilities Board will be conducting annual hydrant flushing throughout the city.

This important preventative maintenance is performed each spring to help maintain the integrity of our water system and identify hydrants that may require maintenance or replacement.

During the flushing process, you may occasionally notice slight discoloration in your water. This is completely normal and should clear up within a few minutes.

Today marked a special occasion as we celebrated the retirement of Firefighter Chris Rogers.

While FF Rogers served with us for six years, his extensive knowledge and experience—particularly from his background in the construction field—made him an invaluable asset to our organization.

We are grateful for his dedication and contributions, and we wish him many years of health, happiness, and well-deserved relaxation in retirement.

Yesterday was a bittersweet day as we said goodbye—at least to full-time service—to one of our own. After 29 years of dedicated service to the City of Lenoir City, Firefighter Jason Simon has retired.

Jason began his career in 1997 with the Parks and Recreation Department, starting as a laborer and working his way up to Assistant Director. In 2015, he answered the call to serve in a different capacity, transitioning to the fire department as a Firefighter/EMT.

Throughout his career, Jason has shown a strong commitment to his craft, always striving to learn, improve, and serve the citizens of Lenoir City with professionalism and pride.

While he may be stepping away from full-time duty, we’re fortunate that he will continue to serve alongside us in a part-time role. We wish him all the best in his next chapter at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and thank him for his years of service and dedication to our community.

This morning’s training focused on firefighter rescue in zero-visibility conditions. Crews operated in complete blackout environments, practicing how to navigate safely and respond after becoming separated from a hose line. Firefighters worked to relocate the line and follow it out of the structure—an essential skill for emergency situations.

Training like this builds confidence, sharpens awareness, and ensures our crews are prepared to react quickly and safely when it matters most.

Feeling a little extra sleepy this morning? Yeah… us too. 😴

But while you’re adjusting your clocks for the time change, don’t forget an important safety step: change the batteries in your smoke detectors. 🔋🚨

Working smoke detectors save lives, and the time change is the perfect reminder to make sure yours are ready when you need them.

If you need smoke detectors, we’re happy to provide and install them free of charge.

Training doesn’t stop when the weather turns cold and miserable. Firefighter Armes works with Probationary Firefighter Bartlett on the two-minute drill, mastering the complete donning of turnout gear and SCBA in under two minutes.

🚧 TRAFFIC ALERT – UPCOMING CONSTRUCTION 🚧

Beginning Wednesday, February 4, 2026, TDOT will start a bridge repair project on State Route 95 over the Clinch River, near the Melton Hill Dam Recreation Area.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
• Bridge reduced to one lane
• Temporary traffic signals on both sides
• Delays likely, especially during peak travel times
• Project expected to last through mid-August 2026

🚒 IMPORTANT NOTE 🚒
This construction will NOT impact emergency response times for the Lenoir City Fire Department within the city limits. Our operations and response capabilities will remain unchanged.

We simply want to make everyone aware of the upcoming traffic impacts so you can plan accordingly. Please slow down, stay alert, and be patient in the work zone.

As always, thank you for helping us keep our community safe!
