Day 3 of celebrating our Health Educators at CCHD for National Health Education Week!

Hi! My name is Ashka Shah, and I am a Health Educator with a passion for public health, community engagement, and improving access to health education and resources.

I was born and raised in Michigan but have called North Carolina home since 2010. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology from East Carolina University and my Master of Public Health from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

My background includes experience in clinical care, public health research, and health education. I look forward to continuing to serve and support the communities around me.

Celebrating our Health Educators at CCHD for National Health Education Week!

Brie Flanagan has been a Public Health Educator at the Caldwell County Health Department since July of 2025.

Originally from Hillsville Virginia, she is passionate about serving rural communities and doing her part to make a positive impact on the lives of others. She feels inspired by the strong sense of community support in Caldwell and hopes to be a part of that support system.

Prior to working at CCHD, Brie has a background in community outreach and health education from previous roles. She has her Bachelors Degree in Exercise, Sports and Health Education from Radford University, and her Masters of Public Health from Old Dominion University.

When she’s not at the office or out in the community, Brie can be found cuddled up with her cat, Sophie. She also loves playing the piano, going to contra dances, and spending time outdoors.

Celebrating our Health Educators at CCHD for National Health Education Week! Starting with Tyler!

Tyler serves as a Health Educator with the Caldwell County Health Department and loves the community he has stepped into and is ready to serve the people of Caldwell. He hopes that his work will continue to make a meaningful impact in the health of Caldwell County for a long time.

Tyler is originally from South West Virigina and moved to North Carolina in 2021. He is passionate about personal health and helping others discover that passion as well. He has a background in exercise physiology and has worked for several years in the fitness industry. Tyler has a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Physiology and Human Performance and a Masters of Public Health both from Liberty University in Virginia. And loves getting to discuss healthy living with those that he interacts with.

Outside of work Tyler enjoys getting outside and spending time in nature, Tyler also loves to lift weights and spend time playing sports. Tyler is also an avid cook/baker and enjoys making homemade foods to share with others around him.

Dr. Yang is a dedicated Family Nurse Practitioner who believes great healthcare starts with listening, compassion, and building meaningful relationships with patients. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Gardner-Webb University and brings a wealth of experience in family medicine, urgent care, behavioral health, skilled nursing, home health, and case management.

Dr. Yang strives to provide care that puts YOU first! She is passionate about providing comprehensive, patient-centered care and making sure every patient feels heard, respected, and supported. As a bilingual provider fluent in Hmong and English, she is committed to delivering culturally sensitive care to our community.
