🚨 LEARNING TODAY, PREPARING FOR TOMORROW! 🚨

🚒🚓🌪️ Decatur County Emergency Management spent the past few days in Ankeny attending the Iowa Homeland Security Conference!

Emergency management is about more than responding when disaster strikes. It’s about planning ahead, building relationships, staying informed, and making sure we’re ready when our communities need us most.

Throughout the conference, we had the opportunity to learn about new strategies, exchange ideas, and connect with emergency management and public safety professionals from across Iowa.

💡 Why does this matter for Decatur County?

Because the knowledge we gain and the partnerships we build today can make a difference tomorrow when severe weather, emergencies, or disasters impact our communities.

We may be a small, rural county, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be BIG on preparedness! 💪

We’re heading home with fresh ideas, valuable resources, and an even stronger commitment to keeping Decatur County safe, prepared, and resilient.

Our mission remains the same: Prepare. Respond. Recover. Together. ❤️🤍💙

We have had the pleasure to work with Trooper Clark as he worked PT for Decatur Co.

Please join the Iowa Department of Public Safety in extending our gratitude and appreciation to Senior Trooper Tom Clark #395, who is officially retiring TODAY, after 32 years of service!

Originally from Melcher-Dallas, Iowa, Trooper Clark attended college at Indian Hills in Ottumwa. While attending college, he worked as a reserve deputy and part-time jailer for Marion County. He also worked part-time for the Pleasantville Police Department and part-time for the Melcher Police Department.

Trooper Clark was offered and accepted a position with the Iowa Department of Public Safety in 1994 with the Iowa Capitol Police Division. In 1997, he was promoted to the Iowa State Patrol in District 1 and was assigned to Dallas County, where he worked the majority of his career. In 2019, he transferred to Decatur County in District 2 and has been there ever since.

Trooper Clark was a staple on the midnight shift in District 1 and District 2, working them permanently for many years. Trooper Clark was also a K-9 handler for multiple years and was assigned to the Interdiction Team. He contributed or assisted with numerous drug arrests and cash seizures throughout this time.

Throughout his career, Trooper Clark has been involved with many high-profile incidents. A couple of noteworthy examples are the apprehension of 2 separate murder suspects and receiving a commendation for locating and freeing a kidnapping victim early in his career. Trooper Clark has been an invaluable asset for our department and for the State of Iowa as a whole.

Congratulations, Trooper Clark, and best wishes on your retirement!
