🚨 Congratulations to Two Maryland State Troopers!

Please join us in congratulating First Sergeant Ruth of the Leonardtown Barrack on successfully completing FEMA ICS-400 and First Sergeant Gresko of the Automotive Safety Enforcement Division on successfully completing FEMA ICS-300!

🎃🚔 NO TRICKS, JUST TREATS WITH THE MARYLAND STATE POLICE! 👻🍬

On Friday, October 23, 2026, Trooper Herman joined in on the Halloween festivities at Oakville Elementary School's Trunk-or-Treat event!

Trooper Herman traded traffic stops for candy stops, decorating her patrol vehicle with spooky decorations, glowing pumpkins, cobwebs, and even a few skeletons! Of course, no Maryland State Police trunk would be complete without a little red and blue lighting!

It was a great opportunity to interact with students, families, and community members while enjoying some Halloween fun! A huge thank you to Oakville Elementary School for inviting us to participate in this wonderful community event, and a special shoutout to Trooper Herman for going above and beyond to make her patrol vehicle part of the Halloween excitement!

Maryland State Police Celebrates Three New Crisis Intervention Team Graduates 🎓

Please join us in congratulating three Maryland State Troopers from southern Maryland who successfully completed the Southern Maryland Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training, held October 19–23, 2026!

This intensive 40-hour training provides first responders with the knowledge, tools, and practical skills necessary to effectively recognize, respond to, and de-escalate behavioral health crises. Through classroom instruction, real-world scenarios, and interactive discussions, participants strengthen their ability to safely navigate challenging situations while connecting individuals in crisis with appropriate resources and support.

Congratulations to our newest CIT graduates!

🔹 Trooper Phelps – Leonardtown Barrack

🔹 Trooper Bennett – Prince Frederick Barrack

🔹 Trooper Bender – Aviation Command (Trooper 7)

The graduating Troopers are pictured alongside Southern Maryland CIT Instructor/Coordinator First Sergeant Ruth and Southern Maryland CIT Instructors Senior Trooper Rutkoski and Trooper First Class Marsch.

The success of this training would not be possible without the dedication of our instructors, mental health professionals, community partners, and guest speakers who generously share their knowledge and experiences throughout the week. We are proud of these Troopers for taking an additional step toward strengthening their ability to serve their communities with compassion, understanding, and professionalism.

Congratulations to all three graduates, and thank you for your continued commitment to making a difference!

🚁💙 Meet Alex — Trooper 7’s Newest (and Biggest!) Fan! 💙🚁

Alex is a student at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, and during his time there, he’s had the opportunity to watch several Maryland State Police Aviation medevac helicopters flying to and from the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. According to his family, those experiences sparked a love for our helicopters! 🚁

When a member of Alex’s family reached out to First Sergeant Ruth about the possibility of seeing one of our helicopters up close, we knew we had to try to make it happen!

On Monday, October 12, 2026, Alex and his family got a very special, behind-the-scenes visit to the Trooper 7 hangar!

It took Alex a little time to warm up, but once he did, there was no stopping him! He climbed aboard Trooper 7, explored the cockpit, sat in the pilot’s seat, and even got to ride on the helicopter tug! And of course, his two stuffed animal cats, Cutie and Tina, weren't about to miss out on the adventure! 🐱🚁

But the excitement didn't stop there!

Just as the visit was wrapping up, Trooper 7 received a call for a mission. Alex and his family got to witness firsthand as the crew prepared for their flight and watched the helicopter take off to help someone in need. Talk about the perfect ending to an unforgettable day! 💙

A HUGE thank you to Trooper Bender of the MSP Aviation Command for working alongside First Sergeant Ruth to bring this special visit to life. We also want to recognize Trooper Bender and the two pilots who took the time that day to make Alex feel welcome, included, and part of the Trooper 7 family. Your kindness, patience, and enthusiasm made all the difference!

Sometimes, the most meaningful moments aren't about the missions we fly or the calls we answer. They're about the connections we make with the people we serve.

Alex, thank you for spending the day with us! We hope you, Cutie, and Tina had as much fun as we did. You've always got friends at Trooper 7! 🚁💙

Saturday, October 17, 2026, is National Move Over Day, an initiative supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to raise awareness of Move Over laws and promote the safety of law enforcement officers, emergency responders, roadside workers, and motorists.

Maryland's Move Over Law is outlined in Transportation Article § 21-405(e). Maryland law establishes two primary requirements for motorists approaching stopped vehicles:

Move Over: Drivers approaching from the rear must, when practicable and safe, move into an available lane not immediately adjacent to a stopped, standing, or parked vehicle displaying emergency lights, hazard lights, road flares, traffic cones, or other qualifying warning signals.

Slow Down: If a driver cannot safely change lanes, they are required to reduce their speed to a reasonable and prudent speed appropriate for existing weather, roadway, traffic, and pedestrian conditions.

Maryland's expanded Move Over Law applies not only to emergency vehicles but also to disabled passenger vehicles and other vehicles displaying qualifying warning signals.

Troopers will also take opportunities to educate the motoring public and conduct appropriate enforcement when violations are observed.

The goal of National Move Over Day is to reinforce a simple but critical message: Move Over or Slow Down. It Saves Lives.

Teeing Off for a Great Cause! ⛳️

On Monday, September 28, 2026, Sergeant Oles, Corporal Johnson, Corporal Ditoto, and Trooper Munoz represented the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack as they hit the greens for the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Maryland's 2026 Southern Maryland Golf Classic at Swan Point Yacht & Country Club!

It was a great day of friendly competition against other teams, plenty of fun, and most importantly, supporting an incredible cause! The tournament raised funds to help provide high-quality afterschool and summer programming for Southern Maryland youth ages 6–18.

We're proud of our Troopers for stepping up, swinging for a cause, and supporting the next generation of our community!
