You don't owe me a thing.. not a ride or a race.. a victory or transportation.
I won't force you to have a job or earn your keep.
For all the doctor visits and trims.. the hours spent hauling feed, hay, water, and "cooking" for you..
There is no requirement for you to give back.
Even a kiss on your soft muzzle or a hug before I leave for the night.. your choice.. not a demand.
Just you existing near me is enough. Letting me rest my face on your soft neck and watch the iridescence in your mane shimmer in the sun.. or scratch your belly on an itchy, hot summer afternoon...
..more than enough.
I don't own you. You don't belong to me. You are your own. You have a voice.. and I try my best to listen for your messages.
I chose to take you in, protect and care for you for life. That was my decision.. my choice. You didn't ask for me, or get a vote.
The least I can do is let you know that what you think and feel matters. The least I can do is honor that and who you are.. and let you choose.✨
This morning's sun and warm, steamy water on a chilly day with the equine kid..
