🙏 Thank you, Debbie Summers!

It was fitting to welcome Debbie Summers of the Lexington County Development Corporation to the Rotary Club of Lexington this Thursday, during Community Economic Development Month.

Debbie gave us an inside look at how the LCDC supports economic growth in Lexington County:

🔹 Business retention. The LCDC helps keep the businesses we already have strong and growing here at home.
🔹 Support for local industry. It connects local industries with economic development resources and assistance.
🔹 Experienced leadership. Its Board of Directors brings together well-respected leaders from across the community.
🔹 Working behind the scenes. The LCDC prefers to stay in the background and let the success of our businesses take center stage.

She also walked us through the largest employers in Lexington County. It was a great reminder of how much economic strength we have right here in our backyard. đź’Ľ

Thank you, Debbie, for your decades of service to Lexington County and for spending your morning with us! 🤝

🎙️ Join us tomorrow at the Rotary Club of Lexington!

This Thursday, October 29th, we’re honored to welcome Debbie Summers as our guest speaker. Debbie has spent decades serving the community she calls home.

Born and raised right here in the Midlands, Debbie attended Midlands Tech and the University of South Carolina. After working in the corporate world, spending 10 years as a stay-at-home mom, and building a career in sales and nonprofits, she answered the call to serve. She was elected to Lexington County Council in 2004.

Over 20 years on Council, Debbie served as both Chair and Vice Chair and sat on every committee. She has also served on boards and commissions across the region. Among them:
🔹 River Alliance
🔹 Lexington Richland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission
🔹 Lexington and Cayce West Columbia Chambers
🔹 Central SC Council of Governments and Central SC Alliance
🔹 Lexington County Development Corporation

In 2022, she was elected President of the South Carolina Association of Counties. She is now serving her second appointment to the Lexington Medical Center Board of Directors.

Debbie and her husband Bud have 3 children and 8 grandchildren, all of whom call South Carolina home. đź’™

🌍 Today is World Polio Day!

October 24th marks the birthday of Dr. Jonas Salk, who developed the first polio vaccine, and it's a day when Rotarians around the world celebrate our biggest commitment: ending polio for good.

Since 1985, Rotary has made polio eradication a top priority. Working with global partners, we've helped reduce polio cases by 99.9% since 1988, and wild poliovirus now remains in only two countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

We're closer than ever, but "almost" isn't finished. Every vaccine and every dollar brings us one step closer to a polio-free world, and thanks to the Gates Foundation's 2-to-1 match, every contribution to Rotary's polio efforts goes even further. đź’›

The Rotary Club of Lexington is proud to be part of this historic fight. Learn more or donate at endpolio.org.

Together, we can End Polio Now! 🙌

🥫 Service Above Self in action!

For our October service project, members of the Rotary Club of Lexington donated food items and packed 30 Mission Lex Meal Kits for Mission Lexington! 🙌

The bags were delivered to Mission Lexington CEO and fellow Rotarian Amy Reeves, and will go directly toward helping neighbors in need right here in our community.

Thank you to every member who donated, packed, and pitched in. And thank you, Amy, for the work you and Mission Lexington do every single day. It’s an honor to support it! 💙

🎓 Celebrating Tomorrow’s Leaders at the Rotary Club of Lexington!

This week, we had the honor of recognizing three outstanding local high school student leaders:
🔹 Powell Anne Dozier – River Bluff High School
🔹 Riley Beckham – White Knoll High School
🔹 Ittay Oseguera-Rivera – Pelion High School

These students are already making a difference in their schools and communities through leadership, character, and a commitment to others. That’s what Rotary is all about, and we couldn’t be prouder to celebrate them.

Congratulations, Powell Anne, Riley, and Ittay. The future of Lexington County is in great hands! 🌟

A big thank you to their families, teachers, and schools for helping shape these young leaders. 🙌

đź’™ Thank you, Amy Reeves!

Yesterday the Rotary Club of Lexington welcomed fellow Rotarian Amy Reeves, CEO of Mission Lexington, for an update on the important work happening right here in our community.

Since 1978, Mission Lexington has been there for our neighbors, and today it’s often the first call in many emergency situations across Lexington County. Amy walked us through:

🔹 Their core services and the families they reach
🔹 The real impact every donation makes
🔹 The importance of the Mission Store, where every purchase helps fund their mission
🔹 The Mobile Food Pantry, which brings help directly to people where they are

Looking ahead, Mission Lexington is working toward a new building, with a goal of opening by the end of 2027. It will allow them to do even more for the community. 🏗️

Thank you, Amy, for your leadership and for all Mission Lexington does to serve Lexington County. We’re proud to call you a fellow Rotarian! 🤝

đź’› A powerful morning at the Rotary Club of Lexington!

On Thursday, we welcomed Mary Gasque, 2024–25 District Governor and 2026–27 District Leader for Polio Programs. She joined us as a guest of Rotary President Angelle LaBorde.

Mary reminded us that ending polio is Rotary’s #1 mission. Rotary’s polio work began with a project in the Philippines in 1979. PolioPlus followed in 1985, starting a global effort that has helped bring the world close to eradicating this disease. She also shared the story of Flat Bernie, a fun reminder of how Rotarians everywhere carry this mission with them.

Thank you, Mary, for your leadership and passion, and thank you, Angelle, for bringing her to us! 🙌

🔹 A new facility coming onsite at Scout Motors
🔹 A strong role in training the next generation of health care professionals
