With an authorized strength of 639 sworn officers and nearly 150 civilian personnel, the Lexington Police Department is the largest division within the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. A contingency of our August 2026 police recruits banded together to participate in the Annual “Free Bird” 5k in memory of retired Lexington Police Officer and E-911 dispatcher Charles “Charlie” O’Connell.
