ARREST MADE IN FATAL SHOOTING ON SOUTH TALBERT BOULEVARD

The Lexington Police Department has arrested and charged a Thomasville man in connection with a fatal shooting early Saturday, Oct. 17, at 1000 South Talbert Boulevard.

Davonte Martese Kind, 25, of Thomasville, is charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Bond and court information is not yet available.

The victim has been identified as Robert Jermaine Thomas, 44, of Salisbury.

At 1:23 a.m., officers responded to a reported shooting at the location and found Thomas with gunshot wounds. Officers provided emergency medical aid before he was transported to Lexington Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. Investigators determined that a large party was taking place when an altercation occurred, leading to the shooting.

Detectives determined that Kind left the scene in Thomas’ vehicle, which was later recovered in Thomasville. Kind was taken by private vehicle to Duke University Hospital in Durham for treatment of a gunshot wound sustained during the incident. After he was medically cleared, he was taken into custody at the hospital at 12:45 p.m.

Investigators are still working to determine whether anyone else was involved. The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call LPD at 336-243-3302, or Lexington Crimestoppers anonymously at 336-243-2400.

LPD thanks the NC State Bureau of Investigation, Thomasville Police Department, Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, Davidson County District Attorney’s Office, Duke University Hospital, and Durham Police Department for their assistance.

Thank you, Lexington!

Last night's National Night Out was a big success. Neighbors from across the city filled the Breeden Insurance Amphitheater to spend the evening with our officers and community partners.

Hear from Chief Robby Rummage, Mayor Jason Hayes, and Captain Ronnie Best in the video below.

An event like this takes a lot of people giving their time and resources. Special thanks to:

β€’ Walmart, for donating water, Pepsi-products and chips for everyone who came out
β€’ Acacia Masonic Lodge, for cooking and serving free hot dogs all evening
β€’ DJ Chilly, for stepping in and keeping the music going

Thank you as well to every organization and City department that set up a table, brought a vehicle, or sent staff and volunteers, and to our own Captain Best for organizing the event.

And thank you to everyone who came. Safe neighborhoods start with neighbors who know each other, and last night was a good example. We're already looking forward to next year.

The Lexington Police Department will never call and ask for your personal information. If you get that call β€” even if it looks like it's from us β€” hang up.

We've received reports today of a phone scam targeting Lexington residents. Here's how it works: your caller ID shows a real police department number, and the caller uses the name of an actual officer. They tell you you've been the victim of fraud and that they need your personal information to "investigate."

It's a scam. Scammers can fake β€” or "spoof" β€” caller ID to make any number appear on your phone.

If you get a call like this:

β€’ Don't share any personal or financial information.
β€’ Hang up.
β€’ If you want to confirm whether a call was really from us, look up our non-emergency number yourself β€” 336-243-3302 β€” and call us directly. Don't call back the number that called you, and don't trust a number the caller gives you.

We're always glad to verify whether a call came from us. When in doubt, hang up and call.
