Yesterday, two of our Davidson County 911 team members, Ginger and Liz, were recognized at the annual Governor’s Highway Safety Program banquet for their work “behind the headset.”

Ginger and Liz are two of several Davidson County 911 staff members who volunteer to provide communications coverage during GHSP checkpoint and saturation events. While our law enforcement partners are out working to make Davidson County roads safer, our Telecommunicators are behind the scenes.

We are incredibly proud of Ginger and Liz. We are also grateful for every Telecommunicator with willingness to step up and support these events in addition to the work they already do every day. Congratulations to you both on this well-deserved recognition! 👏

We also want to give a very special thank you to Captain Soles. Year after year, he takes a few moments during this event to recognize the work of our 911 Telecommunicators and express his appreciation for the support they provide to the teams working in the field. Those moments mean more than he probably realizes. We are thankful for his continued support of our staff and for the service and leadership he provides here in Davidson County.

Congratulations to everyone recognized yesterday. It takes many different people, agencies, and roles working together to keep our roads and our community safe.

Yesterday, we were invited to the September NC 911 Board meeting to recognize two of our team members for actions they performed outside of our 911 Center. We were very thankful to be given the opportunity to shine a light on two excellent individuals in our Center. Below is the official announcement of what these two were recognized for:

I want to thank Brian for taking the time to share this story with the 911 Board. I also want to thank the Board for inviting us to their meeting and giving us the opportunity to recognize Jenny and Garrett for stepping into a first responder role outside of the 911 center when someone needed help.

On May 13, 2026, several members of our Davidson County 911 team were attending the funeral service for the son of one of our coworkers. During the service, a young man suddenly experienced a medical emergency in front of his family and everyone gathered there. Without hesitation, Jenny and Garrett stepped in to help.

Jenny stayed with the young man and spoke calmly to him, helped orient him, and provided comfort during what had to be an incredibly frightening and vulnerable moment. Garrett provided steady guidance and support throughout the incident, helping manage the situation and reassuring not only the young man, but the people around him who were witnessing something very frightening.

As I watched the two of them that day, I was reminded that being a 911 Telecommunicator is not limited to radios, 911 calls, or the walls of our communications center. Sometimes, it simply means recognizing that someone needs help and being the one willing to step forward to provide it. Jenny and Garrett were not behind a console that day. There was not a CAD event telling them what needed to be done. They saw someone who needed help, and they responded without hesitation.

As their Director, I was incredibly proud to watch them represent Davidson County 911 with compassion, professionalism, and humanity when it mattered most. Today, thanks to the North Carolina 911 Board, we have the privilege of recognizing Jenny and Garrett and presenting each of them with an award honoring their actions that day.

As we wrapped up another month of training opportunities, we wanted to take a moment to recap the trainings from this month that we participated in and just thank everyone who took the time to attend and participate.

This past month, we had the opportunity to attend Technical Rescue and High Angle Rescue Trainings with Thomasville Fire, and a Mutual Aid Live Burn with Hasty Fire Department, Horneytown Fire Department, High Point Fire Department, & Thomasville Fire Department.

These trainings provided great opportunities to see different rescue operations, strengthen our knowledge of what happens out in the field, and continue building relationships with the agencies we work with every day.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, participated, and represented 911 during these trainings. Your involvement is what makes these opportunities valuable, and we truly appreciate everyone who continues to make the effort to get out there and learn alongside our responders.

Thank you to Thomasville Fire & Rescue for allowing our communications personnel to participate in Monday's Mutual Aid Boat Operations Training!!

This training provided a great opportunity for our telecommunicators to gain firsthand insight into the challenges and operations our field responders face during water rescue incidents. Building this understanding helps strengthen communication, enhances teamwork, and ultimately improves the service we provide to our community.

A special thank you to everyone at Thomasville Fire Department who took the time to answer questions, explain procedures, and make our personnel feel welcome. We truly appreciate your willingness to include us.

I also want to thank everyone from the 911 Center who took time out of their busy lives to attend this training. Your participation and eagerness to learn are exactly what the Responder Relations & Education Committee hopes to encourage. These experiences are invaluable and help strengthen the partnership between us and our responders!
