Did you know that on October 1st, 2026 the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) launched their Automated Camera Enforcement Program. The Automated Camera Enforcement Program aims to improve bus service by discouraging drivers from blocking bus lanes and bus stops.
As authorized in a January 2025 state law, the MBTA will install cameras on buses to ticket vehicles illegally parked or stopped in bus lanes and parked in bus stops.
Between October 1, 2026, and December 31, 2026, educational advisory notices, with no fines or penalties, will be mailed to vehicle owners captured illegally parking in bus stops and illegally parking or standing in bus lanes. Beginning January 1, 2027, tickets, including applicable fines, will be issued.
This program intends to make roads safer, keep bus stops accessible, and ensure bus service is reliable
