On Monday, October 12, the Lexington-Fayette County Board of Health recognized Coreise Johnson, our Public Health Educator & Community Engagement Coordinator (pictured here in the red shirt), for receiving the 2026 Kentucky Black Pride Festival Community Service Award.

For many years, Coreise has partnered with Kentucky Black Pride to connect community members with HIV prevention resources, education, and testing. The award celebrates her commitment to meeting people where they are, building trusted relationships, and connecting residents with public health resources.

Congratulations, Coreise, and thank you for 12 years of service to our community!

Movement Club at Garrett Morgan Elementary ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿคธ

LFCHD is proud to be one of the community partners at Garrett Morgan Elementaryโ€™s In School Club, held every Friday from October 9 through November 20! K-5th grade students get to pick the club they want to join.

Our own Ruben led 2nd and 3rd graders in a session on the importance of movement, using rubber chickens to practice balance and hand-eye coordination through a variety of fun activities. ๐ŸŽ‰

Thank you to Garrett Morgan Elementary for inviting us to be part of this great program! ๐Ÿ’™

Kentucky Earthquake Awareness Week: Check Your Emergency Supplies

After a damaging earthquake, some of the services and supplies we normally depend on may not be immediately available.

That's why emergency kits matter.

Think about having supplies in three places: an at-home kit for sheltering where you live, a to-go kit you can take if you need to leave quickly and a vehicle kit for emergencies that happen while you're away from home.

Already have your kits? Emergency supplies aren't โ€œbuild it and forget it.โ€ Food expires, batteries lose their charge, medications and household needs change, and children grow.

TODAYโ€™S ACTION: Check one emergency kit today. Don't have one yet? Gather the first three items for it.
