Great program on the history of the Trinity Valley Exposition presented by Fred Lemond! Mr. Lemond challenged our attendees with a timeline which included historic events contemporaneous to the formation of the TVE! Beautiful PowerPoint which included vintage photos which illustrated the history. Thank you Fred Lemond for this most interesting program!

TVE AND ITS HISTORY WILL BE THE SUBJECT OF GUEST SPEAKER FRED LEMOND AT COUNTY HISTORICAL COMMISSION MEETING

The Liberty County Historical Commission will meet Monday, October 12th, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Hartel Building, 318 San Jacinto Street in Liberty. The public is invited to attend. Our guest speaker representing the Trinity Valley Exposition will be Fred Lemond who has served in numerous leadership and volunteer roles at TVE for more than fifteen (15) years. His commitment to the community extends well beyond TVE, as he currently serves as President of the Liberty County ESD No. 2 Board of Commissioners and is actively involved in several ministries and leadership capacities at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Liberty. A retired BP employee, Fred, continues to dedicate his time and expertise to a variety of organizations throughout Liberty County. He served as President of TVE from 2022 to 2024 and currently remains active with the organization as a member of the E-committee.

On October 30th, 1909, the first Liberty County Fair was held on the courthouse square where livestock and produce were exhibited and judged. There were booths displaying canned goods, art and handiwork along with agricultural products. A parade was composed of school children, decorated buggies, horses and wagons, with prizes given for the best decorated. The Fair began as an all-day affair with citizens from across the county participating. Later, it extended into a three-day exposition. In 1930, the Fair moved to the Fair Grounds two miles south of Liberty on F.M. 563 where it grew. In 1939, the Liberty County Fair changed its name to the Trinity Valley Exposition.

Please join the Liberty County Historical Commission to hear how this small-town Fair evolved into the TVE and the work they do in the community today. For more information email: [email protected].

I have had a query from a descendant of Aaron Cherry, early settler in Liberty County. She asked if there is a descendant’s association or informal group that may host a reunion. Does anyone have this information?

Sadly, our wonderful Parker 3-truss bridge will be taken down some time in 2027 by TXDOT. Circa 1930, so just short of her 100th birthday. We have had many meetings over the last 15 years to try to salvage this part of our history. It would cost 20 million upwards. We discussed salvaging one of the trusses to place somewhere in Liberty but that would be a one million dollar salvage. There are no funds available in the county or city coffers for this project and any funding by TxDot would be deducted from our annual budget to repair roads and highways so here we are. I know the bridge is a special part of our history and loved by all. We will lose the coveted National Register of Historic Places designation. That really hurts.
