I have a very sad update. The injuries this raccoon had were much worse than we realized. *She* had exposed bone on her hand and did actually have burns on her so I have no idea what all she went thru. Her condition left a very poor prognosis for recovery and Dr Tope recommended humane euthanasia to put an end to suffering. One thing I will always do here, is follow the advice of our veterinarian. I think that's one of the things that keeps us within our financial, as well as physical ability, to give a good quality of life to the animals in our care. Animal rescue is hard and very emotional. This isn't the outcome that we were hoping for.
We've stopped the donation part of the post because her physical exam and humane euthanasia has been covered . Thank you for being there with us thru it all, even the sad parts.

We have a vet appointment today for this poor raccoon.
Obviously, we'll never know exactly what happened but based on the injuries, this is consistent with the damage a "dog proof raccoon trap" does. It's a steel cylinder that holds bait in the bottom. The raccoon reaches in for the bait and an internal spring snaps a bar across the paw.
It appears like this raccoon struggled, chewed at the trap and used his other limbs trying to get out, rubbing off fur and creating multiple wounds until eventually he pulled his fingers off to get out. And it's all perfectly legal. These inhumane animal torture traps are sold in almost every hardware store.
For those that want to argue I'm wrong, it's possible, but considering what we see, I don't think I'm wrong. What else could it have been?
Honestly, how it happened is in the past, but what happened after that was pretty amazing. Some very kind people worked on getting him in a crate and transported him 2 hours to get him here. A slow release antibiotic will be given to make his recovery less stressful. I'm hoping he was caught in time and it's all good things for this little guy from here on out.
If you'd like to donate towards his vet bill and long term recovery care, check the comments for donation links. All donations are tax deductible. Thank you for your help and support.
What do you think about a name? Greg wants to name him Glover. (I told y'all we ran out of names a long time ago 😂)
