🔥 HEAT WAVE SAFETY — STAY COOL, STAY HYDRATED, STAY SAFE 🔥
The Liberty Fire Department reminds everyone to take extreme heat seriously. High temperatures combined with humidity can create dangerous heat conditions and increase the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
☀️ During a heat wave:
• Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty.
• Limit strenuous outdoor activities and schedule them for the coolest part of the day.
• Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.
• Spend time in air-conditioned buildings when possible.
• Never leave children, older adults, pets, or anyone else unattended in a parked vehicle — even for a few minutes.
• Check on family members, friends, neighbors, and those who may be especially vulnerable to extreme heat.
• Keep pets indoors or provide plenty of shade and fresh water.
• Never take salt tablets unless specifically recommended by a physician.
🚨 Know the warning signs:
Heat exhaustion can include heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, headache, and muscle cramps. Move the person to a cool location, provide water if they are fully conscious, and help cool them with wet cloths or a cool shower.
Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Signs can include confusion, loss of consciousness, very high body temperature, and hot, red skin. Call 9-1-1 immediately and take steps to cool the person while waiting for emergency responders.
