Kitty Cat 🐈 Rescue 🚨
LCCRS was contacted by Clementsville VFD’s Chief Cook about an individual requesting assistance to rescue a stray cat from the frame rails of semi trailer. Chief Cook wanted to know if our squad could offer some assistance. We made contact with the individual and agreed to meet and check the situation to offer help. Arriving units found the mischievous cat had stuck her head through a hole about 1-1/2 inches round and became stuck. Units gloved up and leaped into action. One pushing and one pulling gently until finally freeing the cat. Now what happened next was kinda a blur when this stray cat was backed into a corner with rescuers blocking her means of egress. But with out any further incident no one was scratched, bitten, or other wise harmed.

This weekend, members of the Liberty-Casey County Rescue Squad took part in the first half (20hrs) of a Rope Technician course. 🧗‍♂️🪢

This specialized training is helping our members build the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to safely and effectively respond to technical rescue situations. Continued training like this ensures that when our community needs us, we are prepared to answer the call.

A special thank you to Brush Creek VFD for allowing us to use their new training facility. We truly appreciate your support and hospitality!

We would also like to thank Ky State Fire Rescue Training Area 14 and the instructors for sharing their knowledge, experience, and expertise with our members.

We’re proud of our members for continuing to invest their time and effort into training and improving their skills. While sacrificing time away from their families. The more prepared we are, the better we can serve our community.

LCCRS was recently awarded a grant from TC Energy. Funds from this grant went to purchase rechargeable spot lights, helmet lights, and signal lights for each of our Swift Water members. Our squad is extremely grateful for these opportunities. These grants help fund for better equipment which in turn helps keep our members safe and allows us to better serve our community.

LCCRS members in cooperation with C.C. Emergency Management and Soggy Bottoms Campground spent the day mapping portions of the Green River. A three man boat crew traveled 4.77 miles downstream starting at the primitive camping area and finishing at the Goose Creek and Green River connection just south of the Red Hill Rd Bridge. The boat crew gps marked areas of high concern, and possible dangers. At the same time our UTV crew traveled 25.1 miles on surrounding roads mapping any river access sights along the way. The drone was launched multiple times to provide additional mapping and aerial coverage. These pre planned procedures are how we better prepare for our community in times of emergencies.

Around 7pm last night LCCRS was dispatched to Soggy Bottom Campground for a water related incident. A group of individuals were floating the river behind the campground. Rain from storms that day had caused a significant rise in the river. They encountered fast moving water, and debris causing them to get overturned. One member was swept from the group and was unaccounted for. Members of their group returned to the river as well as other bystanders and took off searching for the missing person, both on foot and by kayak.

Once units from LCCRS, Liberty FD, Dunnville VFD, Clementsville VFD, CCEMS, and CCSO secured the scene it was determined we had conflicting stories of how many individuals were unaccounted for.

Drone 1 was deployed for aerial coverage as well as a 4 man Swift Crew and Boat deployed and directed down river. About 1hr from initial call all units and individuals was accounted for and found safe and unharmed.

Boat crew covered about 2.6 miles of river downstream of campground, Drone 1 covered roughly 45mins of flight and numerous pictures to help preplan and prepare for future deployments.

We would like to thank the owners of Soggy Bottom Campgrounds for their quick response and assistance in setting up our staging area. While this run ended the way we hope every run does, subjects were found unharmed, there are a few things we would like to remind the community about for safe water related activities. With current temps and high humidity, water is the common attraction to beat the heat. Please remember to wear your life jacket, be aware of swift or quickly rising water, and when floating the river make sure others are aware of your float path. These reminders can make the difference in an enjoyable day or a tragic one.

🚨 FLOODING IS A THREAT THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING 🚨

Casey County is within the area highlighted by the National Weather Service as having an increased concern for excessive rainfall and flash flooding through Saturday evening.

Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected beginning tonight and continuing through the first half of the weekend. While most areas can expect 1–2 inches of rainfall, some locations could receive significantly higher amounts where storms repeatedly move over the same area.

Flooding can happen quickly, especially after dark when hazards are harder to see.

⚠️ Remember:

🚗 Turn Around, Don’t Drown

* Never drive through a flooded roadway.
* Water may be deeper than it appears.
* Roadways can be washed out beneath the water and you may not know it until it’s too late.
* Just a small amount of moving water can carry away a vehicle.

🚧 Do Not Drive Around Barricades
Barricades are placed for your safety. They often mark flooded roads, washed out roadways, damaged bridges, or other hazards that may not be visible from your vehicle. If you encounter a barricade, find another route.

📱 Stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially during the overnight hours.

We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.

Liberty/Casey County Rescuers, along with 11 of other Kentucky Fire and Rescue agencies, participated in training to complete their Swift Water Technician level certifications. These volunteers trained Nov. 19-23 at Green River Lake. Special thanks to Campbellsville Fire & Rescue for organizing and instructing the training. Although these guys are ready to share these skills with our community we ask that you plan ahead and avoid being caught in hazardous high water conditions. Remember: Turn around! Don’t drown!
