Remembering Retired Deputy Chief Ronald L. Fry
It is with heavy hearts that the Libertyville Police Department announces the passing of retired Deputy Chief Ronald L. Fry, who passed away peacefully at home on October 30, 2026, with his beloved wife by his side.
Ron dedicated 41 years of his life to law enforcement and serving the Libertyville community. Throughout his distinguished career, he served in numerous roles, including Patrolman, Equestrian Officer, Detective, Juvenile Officer, Crime Prevention Officer, Patrol Sergeant, and Patrol Lieutenant, ultimately retiring as Deputy Chief.
Ron was deeply committed to the community he served. He was a familiar face at Libertyville High School athletic events and dances and had a special passion for working with young people as a Juvenile Officer. His career included serving on the campaign security detail for President George H.W. Bush and receiving the Life Saving Medal for rescuing residents from a fire at the Cook Apartments just six months before his retirement. His bravery and dedication also earned him recognition as an honorary firefighter.
Beyond his badge, Ron was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose legacy of service, integrity, and compassion will not be forgotten. His impact on this department and the community he spent a lifetime protecting will continue to be remembered.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Ronβs wife, Martha, his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. We are grateful for his many years of dedicated service to the Libertyville Police Department and the community he proudly served.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 4, from 4:00β7:30 p.m. at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place, Libertyville. A prayer service with military honors will follow at 7:30 p.m.
