The Limerick Township Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Philadelphia Police Officer Shane Seiber, who lost his life in the line of duty today. There are no words to encapsulate the tragedy of a person losing their life in service to the community. Rest easy, Officer Seiber. Your watch is over. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten.

It is a very sad day for the Philadelphia Police Department today. Our hearts are broken, as we pray for our hero Officer Shane Seiber’s family. We are also praying for Officer Rodriquez, as he continues his fight for survival.

This ambush of two men, just trying to do their job as police officers, is just pure evil.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.”

Almost anyone old enough to do so remembers exactly what they were doing and where they were 25 years ago today.

As a police department we honor the emergency personnel that demonstrated extraordinary courage and sacrifice that terrible day. We remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the heroes who answered the call.

25 years later, we remember and we will never forget.

Last evening at 7:17 PM, officers from our department responded to Heritage Airfield, located at 3310 W. Ridge Pike, for a reported airplane crash.

Upon arrival, officers located a small aircraft that had overturned on the runway. The pilot was the sole occupant of the aircraft and remained entrapped within the aircraft.

An airport employee and responding officers cooperated to free the pilot from his parachute and removed him from the aircraft. Airport staff advised that the aircraft was attempting to land at the time of the crash.

The pilot was conscious and able to stand following his extrication. He sustained observable lacerations and was evaluated at the scene by Freedom Valley Medical Rescue before being transported to an area hospital for further medical treatment.

Officers on scene contacted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Eastern Region Operations Center and provided the circumstances of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by aviation authorities.
We would like to thank airport personnel for their immediate communication with emergency personnel and their assistance in freeing the pilot. The Limerick Fire Department and Freedom Valley Medical Rescue also provided valuable assistance at the scene.
