Have you ever gone to the doctor, or taken a family member or child to the doctor’s office, and wondered to yourself about how nice it would be if you knew ahead of time what the cost of a checkup might be? Have you ever been afraid to go to the doctor when you were really sick, because you weren’t sure if you’d be able to afford it?
The lack of transparency on pricing hurts Nebraska families, risking their health by making them gamble. It forces them to play the odds and try to guess how severe a doctor’s bill will be and compare it to how severe an illness or injury might be. And like with all gambling, the house eventually wins. Children are forced to have unexcused absences from school and parents often risk their own health so they can save money and better provide for their families.
It does not have to be this way. Li-N-GA is hosting a “phone zap” and is encouraging Lincolnites to call the office of the mayor and encourage them to consider asking the city council to draw up new provisions requiring expected prices, price guidelines, etc, to be easily available for the offices of Doctors, Hospitals, Dentists, Eye Doctors, etc, in Lincoln. This helps protect families who are struggling. This helps the education of our children, protects our elderly, and gives families the ability to choose the businesses they prefer the most. It strengthens the competition between businesses and takes the guesswork out of looking after our health and our future.
**Call the mayor’s office at (402) 441-7511 and encourage them to open a discussion about transparency in pricing on 2/18, 2/25, and 3/4!**
Matthew 6:24 -- “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
