We provide services and programs to our low-income community that address basic needs and provide opportunities to achieve economic independence.

The Center for People was founded in a 700 square foot garage in 2002, with the desire to provide the Lincoln community with the tools needed to achieve economic independence. Over the years it has grown to a 100,000 square foot facility serving thousands of low-income families each year. What's the first thing you do when you get home?

Grab a snack? Open the fridge? See what's inside?

Many of our learners do something similar.

One of the first stops they make when they arrive at Center for People is the Fuelers Fridge.

If you're not familiar with it, the Fuelers Fridge provides fresh food and nutritious snacks for learners participating in our education and workforce programs. Because learning works better when people have access to good food.

And it's become a favorite.

String cheese. Fresh fruit. Jerky. Muffins.

Some weeks, our common area smells like oranges.

What we stock depends on availability, but it also depends on listening. We pay attention to what learners enjoy, what gets eaten, and what helps people feel welcome. Sometimes vegetables by themselves can feel intimidating. Add a little ranch dip, and suddenly they're a hit.

It's a small thing.

But small things matter.

The Fuelers Fridge helps make Center for People feel a little more comfortable, a little more supportive, and a little more like home.

Thank you to the Nebraska Presbyterian Foundation and our partners at Lone Tree Foods for helping make it possible.

What changes when school lets out for the summer?

For many working parents, it's not just the schedule.

It's figuring out how to keep kids fed throughout the day while balancing work, childcare, and transportation.

Lincoln has summer meal programs available for families. But for some parents, getting children to those sites isn't always practical. Many of the families we serve are already visiting the People's Pantry each week for groceries, and many have older children at home during the day while they're at work.

That's why we're excited to introduce Kids Corner at Center for People.

This summer, families coming to the People's Pantry will be able to pick up shelf-stable, kid-friendly foods alongside their regular groceries. Foods children can safely and easily prepare at home while their parents are working.

It's a simple idea.

Pick up groceries in one place.
Bring home a little extra support.
Know there's something ready when a child gets hungry.

Because summer should be about making memories, not solving one more logistical challenge.

We're grateful to Farm Credit Services of America for helping make this initiative possible. Their support allows us to build on an existing system families already know and trust, reaching hundreds of households each week with practical, accessible support.
