Earlier this month, Debtor Defense Clinic students Natalie Taylor ’27 (second from left), Andrew Dominguez Farias, ’27, (third from left), and Benedict Kennedy ’27, (right) testified in front of the Judiciary Committee in support of LB 871, a bill they drafted to update the dollar amounts for property, wage garnishment, and homestead exemptions.
This bill was introduced by Senator Danielle Conrad, ’03, with additional testimony in support from Debtor Defense Clinic Professor Kevin Ruser, Assistant Paralegal Barbara Robertson, and Legal Aid of Nebraska Attorney Roxanne Alhejaj.
Experiential learning opportunities like this provide clinic students like Natalie, Andrew, and Benedict with a real-world legal education while they work to make a difference in the community.

The Nebraska Children’s Justice and Legal Advocacy Center is pleased to announce that the application for the 2026 Children’s Justice Attorney Education (CJAE) Fellowship Program is now available.
CJAE provides a holistic approach to supporting attorneys in rural Nebraska who are working in (or interested in) juvenile court advocacy. Over eight months, Fellows deepen their skills through intensive training, expert case consultation, and reflective practice. This is not a traditional CLE; participants receive ongoing support and practical consultation designed to create meaningful change in advocacy and outcomes for children and families.
