Yesterday, Lancaster County welcomed Cornhusker Girls State delegates for a behind-the-scenes look at county government.
Board Chair Christa Yoakum hosted the visit and tour, sharing how county services work, what it means to serve in local government, and why civic engagement starts at the local level. Delegates toured county facilities, sat at the commissioner dais, and had the chance to ask questions directly.
Cornhusker Girls State is a program that gives Nebraska high school students a hands-on look at how government works. We were glad to be part of it.

💫 Gov on the Go: June 2 Board Meeting Highlights
- Problem-Solving Courts and Sentencing Support:
The Board approved four-year agreements to continue DUI Court and Veterans' Treatment Court in Lancaster County through 2030. Both programs offer alternatives to traditional sentencing for eligible adults. The Board also approved an agreement for two probation officers to help prepare sentencing reports for people in custody.
- Nebraska Crime Commission Grant:
Lancaster County received a $1,136,269 grant from the Nebraska Crime Commission to support community-based juvenile services. The funding helps connect young people with programs designed to keep them out of the justice system.
