Yesterday, we had the opportunity to go out and deliver Christmas presents to some of the newer families in Lincoln. It was amazing. The joy and gratitude that each child expressed makes my heart so full!

On Friday May 30th, the refugee department at Catholic Social Services hosted a cultural orientation for our recent Burmese refugees. The program consisted of a presentation by a dental hygienist on the importance of caring for your teeth, a home safety orientation by the Lincoln Fire Department, and a visit from the Chief of the Lincoln Police who spoke on the role of the police in the United States. As you can tell, it was a day full of happy learning!

People often ask me why our refugees end up in Lincoln - this is a great video on the conflict in Sudan that provides an informative perspective on what is causing the displacement of millions of individuals within Darfur.

Catholic Social Services in Lincoln will be breaking its post 9/11 record of the number of refugees resettled by over 30 individuals this year! Prior to 9/11, we resettled over 400-500 refugees every year. Unfortunately, the cap was greatly lowered after 2001 to just over 150 refugees. This year, we are on track to resettle 180! If you are interested in becoming involved in the lives of our newly arriving refugees, shoot us a message!
