North Backyardistan Cultural Exchange

In North Backyardistan, we are officially stateless. We sometimes puzzle over the system of government operated by our American friends.

We understand that there are elections today for the 435 Congress members, and some of the 100 U.S. senators. We also understand that this may be a presidential election year.

But that accounts for fewer than 600 people. When do you Americans hold elections for all of your other rulers, like the 2.95 million federal employees and the 19.6 million state and local government employees?

North Backyardistan would like to thank all of the members of the Lincoln, Nebraska, USA community for paying a visit to our nation today during the observance of Porch Jam, an international music festival held in large part due to the benevolent efforts of Lady Justina of North Backyardistan.

We are immensely pleased that Americans have begun adopting the North Backyardistani custom of wandering about aimlessly with stringed instruments in a display of peace and friendship.

We would also recommend adoption of other North Backyardistan practices, such as Pawpaw cultivation and implementation of a 100 percent reserve gold standard monetary system.

Porch Jam

This fruit weighing in at nine ounces is the largest so far, but there appears to be at least one remaining on the tree that is even larger.

And just to show what all the fuss is about, here is another fruit cut at what we believe is optimal ripeness.

North Backyardistan has never restricted the employment of child labor. Consequently, a majority of its workforce is comprised of children under the age of thirteen.

The national tree has yielded its first ripe fruit of the year!

Today, the national Paw Paw was hand-pollinated with pollen procured from Urban Trails nursery just a few blocks away. Thank you for the contribution to the national agricultural production of North Backyardistan.

Congratulations to Lady Justina for the international recognition she received from our American friends in Lincoln!

We are also pleased that the organization presenting her with this well-deserved award saw fit to feature our national flag so prominently.

The revival of a forgotten American fruit Across large swaths of North America, an ancient fruit is growing wild but largely forgotten. However, a community of foodies, farmers and scientists is eagerly trying to change that.
