See below for an update on the open burn prohibition.
03/27/2026
π₯π₯π«π«π₯π₯π«π«π₯π₯
The Governor extended the Open Burn Prohibition for two more weeks. This Order is set to expire at 11:59 pm on April 10th. It can be extended again if necessary.
As to the specifics, we have been receiving a lot of calls about what the prohibition applies to. Officially, the Executive Order prohibits Fire Chiefs from issuing open burn permits, Range Management permits and our office from issuing training burn permits. While other fires such as recreational fires and contained burning like burn barrels are NOT part of the prohibition, the State Fire Marshal has strongly recommended that NO burning be conducted. This is an issue that is evidenced by the new fires occurring right now in Grant, Nance and Sherman counties. The hazard is not limited to the panhandle.
π₯π₯π«π«π₯π₯π«π«π₯π₯

Nebraska is currently in extreme fire danger, and with the recent Morrill and Cottonwood Fires, it should go without saying now is NOT the time for burning. A statewide burn moratorium is also in effect.
Weβre still dealing with the largest wildfire in Nebraska history: the Morrill Fire. One spark can undo a lot of hard work.
Help prevent new starts:
β’ Check for dragging tow chains
β’ Make sure tires are properly inflated
β’ Donβt park hot equipment or vehicles in tall grass
Please stay alert and do your part to keep Nebraska safe.
