Honoring the millions of indigenous people of the Americas and of the world.

Beginning in 2021, President Joe Biden formally commemorated the day with a presidential proclamation and did so in subsequent years.

There will be no proclamation this year under the current administration, but we will continue to acknowledge the history, lessons, and sacrifices of the original inhabitants.

Our Chair has made the following statement in response to the news coming out of Ithaca, NY and Cornell University

The Nebraska Democratic Women’s Caucus stands with survivors of sexual violence on college campuses and with the advocates, educators, families, and communities working to prevent sexual assault, harassment, dating and domestic violence, and stalking.

We believe Nebraska’s colleges and universities have a responsibility to take sexual violence seriously, provide clear and accessible reporting options, protect survivors from retaliation, and ensure that students have access to confidential advocacy, counseling, medical care, academic accommodations, and other supportive services.

Nebraska’s students deserve transparent and consistent policies and procedures. They deserve to know where to turn for help and to have confidence that their reports will be handled with care, fairness, and respect. Institutions must continually evaluate whether their policies, practices, and resources are actually meeting the needs of students and survivors

The Nebraska Democratic Women’s Caucus will continue to advocate for safe and equitable educational opportunities for all Nebraskans and stands with survivors of sexual violence.

The images and video from 25 years ago will never be forgotten. The events of 9/11 changed our country in many ways.

We remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives. We honor the first responders, law enforcement, firefighters, and everyday Americans who bravely did their part to save lives. We continue to strive for unity.
