Last Call for Tickets to the 2026 Global Celebration!

Our annual celebration and fundraising event is coming up fast on October 29, and we want YOU to be there as we honor the incredible people who make our mission possible. 💙

Last year, we served a record-breaking 3,121 adult learners from 143 countries — an impact made possible by our 200+ dedicated volunteer tutors and helpers.

Moments like last year's performance by musician Dave Miller remind us of the vibrant, interconnected community we build when we come together. And thanks to volunteer photographer Chuck Haacker (who captured this unforgettable moment on stage), we get to share these powerful stories year after year.

At the Global Celebration, we are celebrating the tireless efforts of Dave, Chuck, and all our amazing volunteers who give their time and talent to empower our newest neighbors.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to our Grand Sponsor, D.A. Davidson & Co, for making this evening possible and supporting our free English, citizenship, and career navigation programs.

“Being able to express yourself is the key to a sense of belonging.” 💙

When newcomers arrive in Lincoln, family members often gain English skills at different paces. While kids pick up the language quickly at school and working parents build skills on the job, home-bound family members can easily feel isolated and fearful without opportunities to practice.

At Lincoln Literacy, our volunteer tutors step in to bridge that gap — sometimes in the most practical, everyday ways. As one of our Board Members shared:

“Helping my friend and student put together a script to enable him to get a haircut when he first arrived in Lincoln . . . It’s that simple sometimes.”

Whether it’s learning how to navigate a local business, preparing for a job interview, or finding the words to build community, language empowers people to pursue the work they dreamed of and feel a true sense of belonging.

When people share our mission, their friends immediately see the value. Whether through tutoring or financial support, every bit helps strengthen our community.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who supported Lincoln Literacy during our recent Target Careers Circle campaign! 🎯💙 It was deeply inspiring to see so much community engagement and love for our adult learners. Thanks to your votes, we have some incredible news to share:

✨ 21,600 votes cast for Lincoln Literacy.

💰 $2,411.64 grant awarded to our organization.

Most importantly, every single vote was a vote of confidence in our mission and the impact we are making together across Lincoln. Grants like this directly support our free English language, digital literacy, and job-skills classes for thousands of local neighbors each year.

Thank you for standing with our students and voting to help our community thrive. 🙌

When it comes to stretching every dollar to serve our students, our team always goes the extra mile!

A huge shoutout to Jaafar for taking the initiative to fix the passenger-side sun visor on Van #5. A brand-new replacement assembly would have cost over $200, but thanks to Jaafar’s handy repair work — and a big helping hand from Sooyoon — Van #5 is back in top shape without costing our community a single extra cent. 🛠️✨

Every dollar we save on van repairs is a dollar that goes right back into providing free transportation, English classes, and workforce training for our students across Lincoln.

Check out the before-and-after pictures below to see their great work in action.

How are our immigrant neighbors faring in Lincoln? 📍

The Lincoln New Americans Task Force surveyed 500+ immigrant neighbors to understand how our community is growing and where we can better support new arrivals.

We’re so proud that many of our Lincoln Literacy students participated to make their voices heard! Building on the 2020 report, this update highlights Lincoln's shared progress and ongoing goals for local partners like us and the Center for Legal Immigration Assistance (CLIA).

Special thanks to Joy Oyebefun from the Asian Community & Cultural Center of Lincoln, NE for her leadership and dedication to this project.

We had such a wonderful time connecting with everyone at the Harvest Moon Festival (Asian Community & Cultural Center of Lincoln, NE)! A special shoutout to our hardest-working volunteer of the day: Azhar’s adorable grandbaby. 💛

He was super busy handing out free books and Lincoln Literacy stickers to everyone who stopped by our table.

Thank you to everyone who dropped by to chat, grab a book, and celebrate with us.

A huge shout-out and thank you to our neighbors at Grace Lutheran Church-ELCA for generously allowing us to park our vans in their lot overnight.

Our student family has grown so much that our main parking lot on Lincoln Mall is simply too small to hold all of our 15-passenger vans without taking away crucial parking spaces from our students and tutors. Having Grace Lutheran just around the corner is a game-changer for us.

To keep our fleet safe, we’ve also installed a security camera monitoring the spot. Thanks to this wonderful community partnership, our vans are safe, ready to roll, and free up space right outside our doors for the learners who need it most.

Thank you, Grace Lutheran, for helping us keep our students on the road to success! 💙
