A heat advisory for Lincoln and Lancaster County will be in effect today (June 9) from 1 until 9 p.m. Here are some actions you can take to stay safe in extreme heat:

🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked car.
✔️ Check on family, friends, neighbors and pets.
💧 Drink plenty of water.
👕 Wear loose, light-colored clothing and put on sunscreen when outside.
🔶 Limit outdoor activity to coolest parts of the day or evening.
❄️ Find air-conditioned places to cool off. During regular business hours, all Lincoln City Libraries, Lincoln Parks and Recreation centers are available as cooling centers. Victory Park Senior Center is also available.

We could see the warmest temperatures of the season so far, this Tuesday and Wednesday. While exactly how hot it gets will depend on how much cloud cover we see, there is the potential for Heat Indices in the low 100s. Now is the time to make plans for extreme heat, especially if you have outdoor plans.
