Woman’s Wesleyan Educational Councils has been a powerhouse of fundraising and scholarship support for NWU for a staggering 130 years!

WWEC’s long legacy of setting and achieving lofty goals continues to make an impact on campus. Just this year, 48 NWU students have received scholarships from the WWEC’s 90-year-old endowment, and many first-year women still call Johnson Hall home, another longtime dream made reality by the council. From all of us in the NWU community: Thank you, WWEC!

…and for curious minds: that $11k raised in 1907 would be nearly $400k in today’s dollars. 🤯

A little NWU trivia: If you stand in the middle of Abel Commons you can see buildings built in three different centuries. 🧱

Twenty-five years ago, the NWU community experienced the September 11th World Trade Center attacks alongside the rest of the nation. Two days later, the inaugural Visions and Ventures event provided a timely reason for everyone to gather together during a difficult week. Below is an excerpt titled “Eyes Wide Open” from the 2001-2002 yearbook:

“Although America has experienced horrible pain, it has caused unity among all. Flags, ribbons, prayers, benefit concerts, and blood donations represent the nation. Math professor Melissa Erdman said, ‘I regularly give blood, and I haven’t been able to since the attack because so many people have already done so. It is amazing.’

The terrorist attack is the largest event that has happened in our generation so far. Sophomore Whitney Cox said, ‘I am actually living through it, and will be able to tell my grandchildren about it.’ This event has certainly given everyone something to think about.”
