It's finally feeling like Autumn outside, and spooky season is upon us, so why not combine the two? Especially when it comes to books you'll love, and books about love. On every Wednesday, we like to share a different part of our collection on social media, and today is all about some great autumnal and slightly spooky romances for you to check out.

It's a SPOOKtacular time of the year and Frankenstein and Dracula Day is coming to the library!

Join us Tuesday, October 27 at 4 PM when we will be reading aloud from the illustrated classics version of "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley and then "Dracula" by Bram Stoker. We'll have coloring pages for you to color as you listen and follow along with us. (We'll read a half an hour of one book, and then switch to the other.) And we will have copies of the books to give away, while supplies last.

Check out everything happening at your library this month, and more: libraryatlincoln.org

There's plenty at the library for teens to check out through the end of the month... We still have a few TEENtober activity booklets left, with activities that can still be done throughout the rest of the month.

There's still time to vote over which books will be battled over in Battle of the Books, our book-based game show competition for teens. (And time for teens to put together their teams of 3-5 people to compete in next year's challenge.)

And there's still time to apply for our Teen Advisory Board, and join a group of teens who help us create and execute a variety of programs at the library while gaining volunteer and leadership experience.

You can still all of these things through the end of October!

This Saturday - October 17 - is the third one of the month, and there's a lot happening at your library:

-📚 Grammar Club: meets at 10 AM in the library's Homework Center.

The Grammar Club is a fun, relaxed place for adults learning English to practice their grammar skills! Our one-hour grammar class focuses on specific areas of English language learning to help you reach your ESL learning goals. It is perfect for all English language learners 18 or older, no matter your first language. This program meets every Saturday at the library.

-🪴 The UC Placer County Master Gardeners return to the library for a presentation about firescaping and defensive landscape planning at 2 PM in the Technology Center. Don't forget that this is the last PCMG presentation at the library until the new year!

-🐶 Read to a Dog is from 3-4 PM in the Homework Center:

This is a great program for younger readers who are reluctant/struggling with their reading skills, and who can help build those skills by reading to a furry friend! The Lend a Heart, Lend a Hand therapy dogs are patient listeners and love hearing a good story. Sign up when you arrive in the Homework Center of the library. Books are provided. Bark your calendars for this program on the third Saturday of each month!

-🎬 Family Movie Night returns to the library at 5:30 PM.

Enjoy a FREE movie at the library on the third Saturday of each month in our Willow Room. Popcorn, soda, juice and water are available for 50 cents each. Parents must accompany their child. The movie starts at 5:30 PM, and the doors open at 5 PM (when the library closes).

Family Movie Night is a free, family-friendly movie each month! Seating is available, but families are welcome to bring their own pillows and blankets to sit on the floor. Popcorn, soda, juice, and water are available for 50 cents each. Families are welcome to bring their own snacks. Check out our website for more information, including what each month's movie selection will be.

Thank you to our Friends of the Lincoln Public Library for sponsoring so many of these programs happen! Keep track of what else is happening at your library on our website: libraryatlincoln.org

On every Wednesday, we like to share a different part of our collection, and since October is Gothic Literature season, this seemed like a good idea this week. So, find something fun to read in the genre of fiction that blends mystery, horror, suspense, and the supernatural with a dark, atmospheric setting (and even a little dark academia, occasionally).

Come join us at the Lincoln Public Library as the UC Master Gardeners of Placer County present this FREE presentation on Saturday, October 17 about getting your garden as safe as possible in case the worst happens...

Learn about defensible space landscaping, or firescaping. There is a way to organize your landscape and maintain your garden that will help create defensible space around your home. We'll discuss what the research is telling us about the best practices we can implement in our landscapes to slow the spread of fire while still being able to enjoy a beautiful garden. With so many Placer County residents living amongst the wildland interface, the time is NOW to make a plan for your house and yard to create a Firewise landscape.

What: Firescaping: Get Ahead and Slow the Spread with the Placer County Master Gardeners
When: Saturday, October 17 at 2 PM
Where: the Lincoln Public Library
485 Twelve Bridges Drive
Lincoln, CA

The Library is pleased to welcome the Placer County Master Gardeners to the library for this exciting workshop. For more info about the UC Master Gardeners of Placer County, check out their website: https://pcmg.ucanr.edu/

We're so happy that Family Art Night is returning to the library on Saturday, October 10, and we hope you'll join us!

And don't forget that the library will be opening at 12 PM Noon that day!

This will be a fun, all-ages event for the whole family, and everyone is invited. You'll be able to see the Tiny Art Show (and vote on entries) and there will be face painters, caricature artists, and a balloon artist, and different art projects to make with your family. There will also be live music, artists creating new works that night, and a free pizza meal for everyone with a library card (while supplies last). Don't have a library card yet? That's okay! You can get one at the event.

We want to thank our Friends of the Lincoln Public Library for sponsoring this incredible event for the whole family, and our partners who will be joining us, including the Art League of Lincoln and the City of Lincoln Recreation department.

This is one of our favorite events each year, so we hope that you'll join us on Saturday, October 10 for the return of the Family Art Night!

Battle of the Books is returning!

The Lincoln Public Library’s Battle of the Books is an upcoming reading competition for students in grades 9-12. Teens read five pre-selected books and compete in teams to answer the most trivia questions during our live Battle of the Books competition. Read more books, have fun, and see if your team can triumph in this year's competition in early 2027!

Sign ups for Battle teams begin on October 19, and the sooner you sign up, the sooner your team will receive your free Battle books (while supplies last).

BUT before that, we need your help to vote on which books will be battled over in the competition. We're going to start with a list of ten acclaimed books in a variety of categories, and you get to choose which of them will become the official five books to be Battled over! Voting ends on November 2.

You can vote here on Instagram (in the comments) or pick up a ballot in the library. Choose one book from each category...
