The first photo captures South 13th Street in 1942, lined with 1940s automobiles and patriotic flags in front of the Lindell Hotel. Across the street stand The Stuart Building, the Federal Trust Building (then known as Federal Securities), and the Sharp Building — still part of our skyline today.

The second image is an undated postcard of the Lindell Hotel at 13th & M. Though it was demolished in 1968, it was once a cornerstone of downtown life.

Lincoln has changed over the decades, but these historic views remind us just how rich our story is.

We loved hosting students from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for a tour of the Federal Trust Building!

Jason Reinke, one of the building owners, led the group through the historic spaces — from standing in front of the original vault, to taking in the views from the roof, to looking out the 12th floor windows with the Nebraska State Capitol in the background.

They even had the chance to review original building plans and dive into the architectural history of the space.

It was a great visit — thoughtful questions, engaged students, and great energy all around.

Fun Fact: The number "1858" printed on the bottom of the postcard is called a publisher’s series mark, common on early–mid 1900s postcards. These small numbers are often mistaken for dates.
