Lindsay Gun Club

Directions

Lindsay Gun Club The Schuetzenverein, a secular society, was organized about 1907, and is probably the oldest organization in the town of Lindsay.

A Kaffee-kraenzchen was one of the regularly-scheduled events held in the hall. Every 3rd month, the Christian Mothers Society sponsored this event. Coffee and lunch were served and informational talk and general discussions were held. Wedding receptions and family gatherings often frequented the building, making it Lindsay's Community Center for many years. Until the mid-1920s, the meetings were held in German, then they changed to English and called their organization "The Gun Club".

Taken from early Gun Club minutes, 1903: at that time the club held an annual meeting and fund raiser.
No minutes available from 1903 to 1927, it is assumed the club minutes were in German, there are no entries in the old minutes record until 1928.
1928: The membership agreed to have the porch in the front of the building closed in.
1929: A motion was made and carried to build the addition to the north side of the building, (the "bar" area).
The parish used the Gun Club as a parish hall when the event was too big for the old grade school basement cafeteria. The club did not charge the parish for using the hall, the parish was asked to pay the electric bill and clean the hall.
