October 18 - 24 is National Teen Driver Safety Week. Now is the time to sit down with your kids and make sure safety is the top priority when they get into a vehicle.

Teens are at a higher risk for crashes, but these are preventable. Lifesaving rules of the road:

- slow down
- buckle up
- park the phones
- drive sober
- limit passengers

Each year, teens are killed on Minnesota roads. Inexperience and risk-taking cost lives. Have the talk now, it could make a difference.

Knowing the signs could save a life.

An opioid overdose can look like:
• Slow or stopped breathing: breathing becomes very slow, shallow, erratic, or stops completely.
• Unresponsiveness: the person cannot be woken up, does not respond to voice or touch, or loses consciousness.
• Pinpoint pupils: the black centers of the eyes become very small and constricted.
• Discolored skin: lips, fingernails, or skin turn blue, purple, gray, or ashen.

If you see these signs, call 911 immediately, administer naloxone (Narcan) if you have it, and stay with the person until help arrives. Naloxone is safe, easy to use, and can reverse an opioid overdose in minutes.

October is breast cancer awareness month, and today, October 13 is nationally recognized in the U.S. as Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. About 155,000 women in the U.S. are estimated to have metastatic breast cancer (cancer that spreads beyond the breast to other parts of the body).

This is our time to remember to be proactive with screenings, support those living with breast cancer, and celebrate the survivors. You're not alone.
