It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Jerome Woods, a respected public servant and a significant figure in the history of the City of Lithonia.
Chief Woods made history when he was appointed as Lithonia’s police chief in 1981, becoming one of the city’s pioneering African American law enforcement leaders. He served the community with dedication for approximately 19 years, helping to shape public safety and community relations during a transformative period in Lithonia’s history.
He was part of a remarkable family of civic trailblazers. His mother, Maggie Woods, became Lithonia’s first African American councilwoman in 1972, and his sister, Marcia Glenn Hunter, became the city’s first African American female mayor in 1995.
