Today is Indigenous Peoples Day, a day that celebrates and honors Indigenous People throughout the United States. As shared by our friends at the Little Canada Historical Society - the location of Little Canada was first known as a seasonal campsite and trading location for the Kaposia tribe of Dakota.

Thank you to everyone who attended our first Community History Lecture Series this past Saturday, where we learned about Dakota history in Minnesota.

Today is Indigenous Peoples Day, a day that celebrates and honors Indigenous People throughout the United States. The location of Little Canada was first known as a seasonal campsite and trading location for the Kaposia tribe of Dakota. In fact, Benjamin Gervais found the location of his future home (and by extension Little Canada) on advice from friends of his from the tribe. It is easy to think of the history of Little Canada in terms of the history of settlers and onward, but the reality is that for thousands of years before, this land was already filled with rich, vibrant culture of local indigenous people.

Happy Sunday Afternoon! Enjoy this Monarch snapshot captured earlier this past week!

Staff caught several monarch butterflies and honeybees at the pollinator areas in Pioneer Park. These pollinator areas throughout Little Canada were intentionally designed and required significant time and effort to make them successful.

The Monarchs are gearing up for their migration to Mexico, which typically starts at the end of October. Feel free to stop by and see these pollinator areas thriving and providing a key component of our ecosystem. 🦋
