The Upstate Jobs Party is a necessity borne from decades of poor governance and empty promises of politicians saying they will create jobs. Yet they keep repeating the mistakes of the past as we watch more of our best and brightest talent flee Upstate New York to pursue opportunities in new industries they don’t find here in our region.

NEW DATA: Our latest research in New York City confirms something a lot of voters feel—only 11% think the state's political system is healthy. Half say it isn't, and a majority feel like the same kinds of people end up in charge no matter who they vote for.

Do I have to rank every candidate? No, you can rank as few as one.

Does ranking a second choice hurt my first? No, your second choice only counts if your first choice is eliminated.

If my first choice loses, is my vote wasted? No, your vote moves to your next choice if you’ve ranked multiple candidates.

Here's a number that might surprise you: more than 1.1 million New York City voters choose not to register as Democrat or Republican. That's over a million of your neighbors who can't vote in primary elections—even though primaries are often the most important election.

Maybe you're registered with a party, so this doesn't feel like your fight. But think about it this way: when only some voters get to pick the candidates, the rest of us are stuck choosing from whoever made it through that narrow process. Open primaries mean more voices in the room from the start—and better choices for everyone come November.

Imagine heading to the polls and finding only one name on your ballot.

In Buffalo, that's not unusual. Since 2011, nearly two-thirds of Common Council general elections have been uncontested.

The U.S. Constitution was signed in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787. The framers of the Constitution were certain they didn’t get everything right the first time. That’s why they designed a way to amend it and adopted the Bill of Rights just three years later.

In New York, there’s work to do on our own governing laws. Closed primaries, restrictive ballot access, and no term limits are just a few of the items that need to be addressed, and they don’t even require a constitutional amendment.
