Help shape the future of Downtown Little Rock!

What could a new public space over I-30 mean for our community?

The City of Little Rock, AR - Government is inviting residents, businesses, and community stakeholders to share their thoughts on the I-30 Deck Park Planning Study during its second community engagement meeting this Thursday, October 22!

The proposed deck park would explore opportunities to reconnect the east and west sides of Little Rock, create safer pedestrian and bicycle connections, and introduce new public gathering spaces between 6th and 9th streets.

During the meeting, attendees can review proposed alternatives, explore potential park amenities and features, ask questions, and provide feedback to help inform future recommendations.

๐Ÿ“… Thursday, October 22
โฐ 4:30โ€“6:30 PM
๐Ÿ“ East Little Rock Community Center (Gym)
2500 E. 6th St., Little Rock

The meeting will be open-house style, with no formal presentation, so stop by anytime during the scheduled hours!

๐Ÿ—๏ธ : Rethinking Downtown Parking

What if we could have MORE parking while using LESS space? ๐Ÿ‘€

This week, weโ€™re continuing our conversation about the Downtown Little Rock Master Plan and Issue 3 by exploring something we all use: PARKING! ๐Ÿš—

Downtown Little Rock has surface parking lots that take up entire blocks. But what if we could rethink how that space is used?

Imagine replacing some of those lots with parking garages that offer: ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿš— More parking spaces in a smaller footprint
๐Ÿ’ธ Potentially free or more affordable public parking
๐ŸŽจ Public art, murals, and creative spaces
๐Ÿšถ Easier access to downtown businesses and attractions
๐Ÿ™๏ธ More room for housing, restaurants, retail, and public spaces

By building UP instead of OUT, we could create more convenient parking for downtown residents, workers, and visitors while opening up valuable land for new development.
So, where does Issue 3 come in?

Issue 3 would give the Arkansas General Assembly authority to create additional economic development tools and allow cities and counties to establish economic development districts under future legislation.

Depending on those rules and local plans, these tools could help communities explore projects involving parking, infrastructure, and the redevelopment of underused properties.

Issue 3 wouldnโ€™t automatically build a parking garage or make parking free. Those decisions would still require planning, funding, and local approval.

But rethinking parking supports a bigger goal of the Downtown Little Rock Master Plan: creating a more connected, walkable, and vibrant downtown.

More parking options. More productive spaces. More reasons to spend time downtown. ๐Ÿ’™

What do YOU think? Would you like to see more parking garages, potentially free public parking, and fewer surface lots downtown? ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ—๏ธ : 9th & Main Street ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

What if this parking lot could be MORE? ๐Ÿ‘€

This week, weโ€™re bringing Masterplan Monday and Issue 3 together to explore how economic development tools could help turn the vision for Downtown Little Rock into reality!

The Downtown Little Rock Master Plan calls for doubling our downtown population over the next decade, and one way to get there is turning underused spaces into places where people can live, work, shop, and gather.

Take the state-owned parking lot at 9th and Main Street. Our friends at Cromwell have imagined what this entire block could become! ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿก Approximately 126 apartments and condos
๐Ÿจ A 200-room hotel
๐Ÿ›๏ธ Ground-floor retail and a grocery store
๐ŸŽจ Museum and art gallery space
๐Ÿš— A parking garage with 300+ spaces
๐Ÿšถ More walkability and activity downtown

ย And this location is especially important! Situated along historic West 9th Street, once the heart of Little Rockโ€™s Black commerce and entertainment, the block connects the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, Main Street, and SoMa.

ย So, what does this have to do with Issue 3?
In Downtown Little Rock, land is one of our most valuable resources. Issue 3 would allow our community to create new programs, loans, and grants through locally controlled economic development districts.ย

These EDDs could help communities support things like housing, businesses, roads and infrastructure, and the redevelopment of old or empty properties.

Imagine the possibilities: A parking lot becomes housing. A storefront opens. More people live downtown. More people walk downtown. More businesses have customers.

This rendering is a vision, not an approved development, and Issue 3 wouldnโ€™t automatically make it happen.

But empty parking lots donโ€™t have to stay empty parking lots.
ย
A stronger downtown starts with imagining whatโ€™s possible. ๐Ÿ’™

Whatโ€™s YOUR vision for 9th and Main? Let us know in the comments! ๐Ÿ‘‡
