This is what the Broligarchy looks like. FOIA records show government officials talking about the rejection of the Ballot Measure Rights Amendment like teammates celebrating a win: “Epic.” “Agreed.” “Really happy.”

But this is not a game to the more than 108,000 Arkansans who signed to protect their constitutional power. Secretary of State Cole Jester’s office was entrusted with a careful, consistent review of signatures and to uphold Arkansans’ constitutional rights. Instead, he searched high and low for reasons to disqualify voters. And then he celebrated with his buddies.

Public officials entrusted with our constitutional process should approach it with integrity and respect. Arkansans deserve better than frat house behavior from some of the most powerful offices in state government.

President Donald Trump announced Lee Rudofsky’s appointment to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Most notably, Rudofsky, while in District Court, dismissed the case against voters complaining that Arkansas’ congressional district maps were gerrymandered.

This map split Pulaski County into three districts and many complained that the map diluted the black vote. Rudofsky dismissed this complaint and ruled that voters cannot bring forward discrimination claims under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
