Park County Environmental Council We are a local environmental organization that works to protect wild ecosystems and build resilient communities in Park County, MT

Over the past two decades, PCEC has worked leading efforts in areas such as watershed protection for the Yellowstone River and its tributaries, wildlife preservation, wilderness conservation, managed urbanization for the city of Livingston and surrounding area, waste removal (electronics recycling), industrial pollution (Livingston Rail Yard/Burlington Northern Superfund Site and Cooke City mining district) and the potential impact of natural resource extraction (natural gas, timber, copper and gold). The organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors, people who make an extra effort to support PCEC programs with their energy and specific talents. Incorporated in 1993 as Park County Environmental Council, PCEC is a non-profit, tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization that is funded through membership fees, private contributions, special events and private or public grants. We deeply appreciate the support of our community.

Help Park County Environmental Council and Bear Awareness Gardiner raise funds for bear safe infrastructure at the Shields Valley School.

Our goal is $5,000 for bear-resistant infrastructure to support safety at the school, and you can give today, whether or not you can join us Saturday: https://pcec.salsalabs.org/ClydeParkBearSmartFund/index.html

Clyde Park has been seeing a lot of bear activity in town and around the school. How we choose to respond as a community to living with bears says a lot about our resilience. Much like navigating severe winter weather and wind storms, living alongside bears takes foresight, creative mitigation tools, proactive planning, and a commitment to collective safety.

If you’re local, join us Saturday, Oct 24th at Crazy’s in Clyde Park for a bear-inspired menu from Chef Gabby, who knows the art of cooking in bear country. Start with walk-around appetizers, meet your neighbors, and swap bear stories. Space will likely fill up soon, so reserve your spot: [email protected]

Can’t make it? Your donation goes just as far toward keeping bears and kids safe: https://pcec.salsalabs.org/ClydeParkBearSmartFund/index.html

We were all beavers at our Community Stewardship Field Day! With the help of 16 volunteers, we harvested 1,250 willow cuttings for Montana Freshwater Partners’ Eightmile Creek restoration project, which aims to improve stream and riparian habitat and restore ecosystem health and diversity.

Willows are some of the hardest-working plants in stream restoration. Once planted along the streambank, the cuttings take root quickly, stabilizing soil, shading the stream, and creating habitat for fish and wildlife. Every cutting we harvested is a step toward a healthier creek and ecosystem.

Thank you to Paradise Valley Ranch, O’Hair Ranch, and Park County for allowing us to harvest on their properties. And a huge thank you to all our volunteers who joined us for the day to learn and care for our ecosystem together!

Today is DAF Day, a national day of giving for people with donor-advised funds.

Earlier this year, a proposal for an 80-acre gravel mine and asphalt plant in Paradise Valley came roaring back. Because PCEC walks the fence at night, we were ready. More than 1,500 people signed a petition, hundreds submitted comments, and in April the Park County Commission voted unanimously to sign a letter opposing the pit.

That’s what happens when a community is informed, organized, and ready to act.

If you have a donor-advised fund, consider putting your charitable dollars to work for Park County. Your gift helps PCEC keep watch when a threat is still over the horizon and respond quickly when our community needs a voice.

To recommend a grant, go through your institution’s grant-making process and recommend a contribution to Park County Environmental Council (tax ID 36-3699660).
