KEEPING LIVINGSTON PARISH WATERWAYS CLEAN!

Today, I was honored to receive a plaque recognizing our efforts during the Love the Waterways Statewide Litter Cleanup held in September. The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office River Patrol and Springfield Fire Department was also recognized for their participation.

I want to share just what our volunteers accomplished here in Livingston Parish in one day!

82 volunteers came together to clean 77 miles of waterways, collecting:
96 large, 30-gallon bags of trash
Tires, appliances, coolers, barrels, bicycles, and other debris that had no business being in our waterways.

That's an incredible amount of work in just one day!

I want to personally thank Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser for organizing this statewide effort, along with our Livingston Parish Litter Abatement Department, Sheriff's Office, Livingston Parish Tourism, participating fire departments, and especially the volunteers who gave their time to make this event a success.

But keeping Livingston Parish clean doesn't happen in just one day. It takes all of us.

Secure your loads when hauling materials, pick up litter when you see it, and encourage those around you to do the same. Every piece of trash we keep off our roadsides is one less piece that can end up in our ditches, rivers, and waterways.

I'm proud of what we accomplished together, but we still have work to do. With the community's help, we can make Livingston Parish a cleaner, more beautiful place for everyone!

REACHING OUR YOUNG PEOPLE THROUGH ONE PILL CAN KILL!

Today, Tasmin "Taz" Mitchell, who is working with our Livingston Parish One Pill Can Kill initiative, visited the 5th grade K-Kids at Denham Springs Elementary School.

Taz talked with the students about the dangers of opioids, the importance of making good decisions, and some of the things he's witnessed throughout his years in basketball as a former LSU player and coach.

One of the most important things we can do through our One Pill Can Kill initiative is reach our children early.

These are conversations that can make a difference long before they're ever faced with a dangerous decision.

I appreciate the Denham Springs Kiwanis Club for sponsoring the K-Kids program, Denham Springs Elementary for welcoming us, and Taz for taking the time to invest in these young people.

If we can reach even one child and help them make the right decision, that's a life we may have saved.

MY INTERVIEW WITH WAFB ON NEXTERA

I recently sat down with WAFB to discuss NextEra and the questions surrounding potential economic development here in Livingston Parish.

I know there are a lot of questions and concerns from our residents, and I believe it's important that you hear directly from me about where things stand.

I encourage everyone to take a few minutes to watch the full interview and hear what I had to say.

Transparency is important to me, and I'll continue sharing information with our residents as we learn more.

REMEMBERING KATY WELLS ❤️

Today, October 16, we recognize Katy Wells Day in Livingston Parish as we remember a very special lady who meant so much to our community.

For over 40 years, Katy dedicated her life to serving Livingston Parish Public Schools and keeping our children safe as a crossing guard. She was a familiar face to generations of families, and her dedication to our children and our parish will never be forgotten.

Katy tragically lost her life doing what she had faithfully done for so many years, protecting our children.

As we remember Katy today, I ask everyone to take a little extra time on our roads. Slow down, pay attention, and be especially mindful in our school zones. The people out there protecting our children deserve that same protection from us.

Please continue to keep Katy's family, friends, and everyone whose lives she touched in your prayers.

Thank you, Katy, for your 40 years of service to Livingston Parish. You will never be forgotten.

NextEra

Today, I met with representatives from NextEra, the nation’s largest utility company. Their representatives are in the parish to meet with government and business professionals as they are discussing the possibility of providing a battery storage facility in the parish. NextEra has filed with MISO. the MidContinent Independent System Operator that oversees the power grid for 15 states, including Louisiana. They are currently exploring several opportunities throughout the state. We will be monitoring their progress in Livingston and will keep you informed.

A GREAT DAY WITH OUR SENIORS IN SPRINGFIELD!

We had a great time today at the Springfield Council on Aging for the Livingston Parish SALT (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together) event!

It was good to see so many vendors, volunteers, and organizations from across Livingston Parish coming together to provide information, resources, and support for our seniors.

Our office was glad to provide Vials of Life, which allow individuals to keep important medical information, including medications and medical conditions, in one place so first responders can quickly access it during an emergency. Something so simple could help save a life.

I want to thank everyone who helped organize today's event and all the volunteers who took time out of their day to support our seniors.

Taking care of the people who helped build our communities is something we should all take pride in!

THANK YOU, PALA AND US FUSION & SPECIALTY CONSTRUCTION!

I want to personally thank PALA Group, Inc and US Fusion & Specialty Construction / US Rubber & Specialty Applications for their generous $2,000 donation to our Livingston Parish Litter Abatement Department!

This donation will help provide supplies and equipment our crews need to continue cleaning up litter along our roadsides and throughout our communities.

Keeping Livingston Parish clean takes all of us, and it's great to see local businesses stepping up and investing in the community.

I appreciate their generosity and their willingness to support the work our Litter Abatement team does every day.

Thank you for helping us keep Livingston Parish clean!
