Oh boy, do we have some fun activities for you this weekend! 😎

Come to Brannan Island State Recreation Area this Friday, 9/25 from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. and enjoy our first evening program, an 'Intro to Canoeing' course! You'll get to enjoy the sunset as you learn all the steps to begin your canoeing journey, from the safety basics all the way to how to plan a trip of your own. Those Delta skies are going to be gorgeous on the water🌅 Spots are limited, email [email protected] to reserve a place.

And after that, Saturday 9/26 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. we'll have our Learn to Fish program! Come learn the basic steps to become an angler on the Delta waterways, from the parts of the rod and how to tie a knot to how to cast onto the water. And of course, we'll be ending the program with a free raffle, where you could take home a brand-new rod and tacklebox 🎣Participants aged 16 and up are encouraged to obtain a valid fishing license in order to fully partake in the program.

Come kick off the first weekend of Fall with some fun programming here in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta with California State Parks! 🐻

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Brannan Island State Recreation Area cleanup! 🌿

Today, park staff joined the Rio Vista Litter Pickers and members of the Delta community to help clean up the shoreline at Brannan Island State Recreation Area. Every piece of litter removed helps make the park a cleaner, healthier place—not only for visitors, but also for the plants and wildlife that call the Delta home. 🐦🌾

The event was held for the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy's 2026 Fall Cleanup Event, which is part of the statewide California Coastal Cleanup Day.

Teens become citizen scientists and learn how to use the iNaturalist app.

Fri, 9/11
3:00 PM-5:00 PM - California Wetland BioBlitz at Delta Meadows!
All ages are welcome to explore the plants and animals of the wetland making up California’s biodiversity. State parks staff will guide you in becoming a citizen scientist while recording all the species you observe in the iNaturalist app.

10:00 AM-12:00 PM - BioBlitz at Brannan Island SRA!
One more chance to explore and celebrate California's great biodiversity. Meet in the campground and get ready to download the iNaturalist app.

You're invited as California State Parks, Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy, and the Rio Vista Litter Pickers join forces to make the California Delta even more beautiful and sparkly than ever! 💫✨

Bring your friends, your family, your scout troop, your church group, your band, your uncle, or come alone and make a friend, and come help the Delta shine!

Water and light snacks will be provided. Please bring water bottle/water, closed-toes shoes, and sun protection.

Join our Team! The Delta Sector of California State Parks is hiring for a Senior Park Aide position. Help us tell the stories that have been shaped by the California Delta.

Do you enjoy connecting people with nature and history? Are you comfortable with technology and learning new skills? Do you like to be creative and contribute your skills within a team environment?

Opportunities include, but are not limited to:

-Development and delivery of interpretation and education programs
-Special events, guided walks, tours
-Staff the Locke Boarding House museum visitor center
-Involvement in community outreach
-Work with social media, create event flyers, and work with various forms of media

August is another fun-filled month for us here in the Delta Sector! Come join us for one of our programs like a walk through the historic town of Locke on the 15th, or learning the basics of how to fish at Brannan Island on the 22nd! 🎣

Have a little Ranger of your own and want to give them a fun, educational activity this summer? Join us for one of our Junior Ranger programs, held every Saturday here at Brannan Island! Our young guests will learn the basics of boating safety like how to properly wear and lifejacket, and at the end of the program, can take the pledge to become an official Junior Ranger and earn their badge... not to mention some cool other prizes if they've been joining other Junior Ranger activities! 🐻

Join us Saturday, August 8th at 9 a.m. at Delta Meadows for a smooth, chill guided meditative walk 😎 Enjoy guided stretching, breathing, and grounding exercises as we reset for the weekend ahead ☀️

And, if you have a little ranger of your own, join us for our Junior Ranger program at Brannan Island SRA at 2:30 p.m. at the oak grove by the boat launch! Junior Rangers have a chance to learn the key components of being safe on the water while enjoying recreational boating, and at the end of this 30-minute program, they can take the pledge and earn their badge! 🐻

Park Now Open

The park was closed due to the "160 Fire" which started along Highway 160 outside the park on Tuesday, July 28th. The fire quickly spread into the park, but no structures were affected. Multiple fire agencies and law enforcement responded to contain the fire. The park was closed for public safety through Sunday, August 2nd, but is now open.

We are grateful to the many fire agencies who responded to the 160 Fire, and we are happy to welcome our visitors back to Brannan Island SRA. See you soon!

Brannan Island SRA will be closed throughout the weekend, beginning Thursday, July 30, 2026, and will remain closed until further notice.

The closure applies to all areas of the park, including the boat launch, campgrounds, and day-use areas.

We thank you for your continued patience and understanding as staff continue to assess hazards following the fire.

Limited access is currently in effect at Brannan Island State Recreation Area following a fire.

-The Boat Launch is open today.
-The campgrounds are closed.
-The day-use areas are closed due to hazardous conditions at this time.

Thankfully, the campgrounds were spared and will reopen soon. We are incredibly grateful to the Rio Vista Fire Department and all the responding crews who worked to save our structures and stop this fire!

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to safely reopen the park. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!
