Come safely dispose of your unneeded medications from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Caldwell County Justice Center this Saturday. Disposing of drugs the right way is crucial for public health, public safety and environmental protection by reducing the chance of home misuse by addicted family members, preventing accidental ingestion by kids and avoiding contamination of the water supply.

SCAM ALERT: FAMILIES OF INMATES
Scammers are calling families of inmates in other jurisdictions and requesting money for GPS monitoring and classes.
We have not received reports of this happening in Caldwell County, but we want our community to be aware.
The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call you to request money for GPS monitoring or classes.
Do not send money or share personal or banking information.
Hang up and contact the Sheriff’s Office directly using an independently verified phone number—not a number provided by the caller.

The burn ban in Caldwell County remains ON. If you ever have any doubt, just check the Caldwell County website at co.caldwell.tx.us to confirm the status. We have been made aware of websites out there that are attempting to be a "one-stop" resource for people wanting to know the status of Texas county burn bans. These sites are not run by counties and are infrequently updated, so they often include incorrect information.

Ever hear wildland firefighters talk about "the black"?

The black is the area of a wildfire that has already burned. Since most of the grasses, leaves, trees, and other surface fuels have already been consumed, this area is generally less likely to support active fire spread.

Firefighters often use the black as a safer place to work while building containment lines, monitoring hotspots and suppressing the fire's edge. However, hidden heat can still remain, which is why crews continue to check for smoldering material and hotspots long after the flames have passed.
