Thank you to the LCRA’s Step Forward Day for working so hard to improve Lions Park and the Brock Cabin Friday. The efforts were with the help of City Parks department staff. They restored the granite walk to the cabin as well as the areas around the ADA ramp and the back of the cabin walkway. It looks great!

The ramp is complete thanks to help from a lot of people. Then Covid-19 hit and we were delayed from completing the team work on the landscape and finishing touches. We will hopefully be able to get started on the landscaping in the fall, then furnish it and open, but all depends on Covid-19 spreading. Let us remember the story of why we felt compelled to "Save the Brock Cabin." This story is a good one on the history of A.L. We are now in search again for someone to complete the ADA ramp job at the cabin. It requires concrete ribbon curbing. This is not just a landscape job.

FAST (Freshman Aggie's Spreading Tradition) were here again today working on the final prep work for the ADA ramp. Getting final bids this week to complete the ramp and landscaping so we can get the Brock Cabin open.

Oh what a great day!!!! These Aggies moved 12 yards of fill today! Tuff kids. I am exhausted just watching them. 60% landscape complete.

At noon today (August 27th) at the A.L. & Rebecca Brock Log Cabin, Brock descendant RUSTY TURLEY of Austin made a most generous and enormously appreciated donation of $10,000 to the Friends of the Brock Cabin. Several family members and other Brock descendants were present. L-R were: (front row: Jane Brown, Joan and Eddie Bostic, Darrell Hess; (back: Ginger Soule (Rusty's sister), Mayor Lew White, Victor Pierce, Trey Turley (Rusty's son in very back), Chair Ronda Reagan, Amanda Turley (Rusty's daughter), Mrs. B.J. Turley (wife), and Rusty Turley. Also in attendance were Jeffrey Castleberry (taking the photo) and Carol Ohlendorf, Glenn and Jeree Oldham and Alfonz Schuster, all of whom worked on the restoration of the cabin originally built in 1850. Both Rusty and Ginger served on the original Save the Brock Cabin Committee.

This week the cabin group got approval to start building an ADA approved ramp on the south side of the porch. Next steps are to complete the hardscape walkways and paths.

"This donation will go into a reserve for maintenance for now," says Ronda Reagan, chair of the Save the Brock Cabin and Friends. "Our immediate plans are to finish the stage one landscaping, complete the security system which will include cameras, fine tune a few details inside and out, move the furniture into it, take down the construction fence, and finally open it for tours and visitors."

"Stage two of the landscape will include drip irrigation system with a cistern, landscape lighting, cabin up-lighting, moving the corn crib into the landscape along with some very old farm implements and install informative signage," adds Reagan.

Friends of the Brock Cabin is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Donations are always welcome and greatly appreciated by all.
