In Lockport's Books & Blockbusters book club, we will discuss books and their film adaptations. Attendees will read the book selections individually, and then we will come together to watch the adapted movie and discuss it. In August, our selected title is “Practical Magic”, by Alice Hoffman. Whether you’re familiar with the movie and are curious about the book, or vice versa, or even if it will be your first time experiencing both, we’d love to have you join us!

We’ll meet on Thursday, October 15th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and begin by watching the movie before diving into discussion. Copies of this month’s book are available at Lockport’s Reference Desk to check out. See you there!

Painted pumpkins, sipped drinks, and a good time all beckoned a gentle welcome to the autumn season at the Romeoville Branch for our September Create and Sip. Patrons filled the room to embellish their own pumpkin door hangers, and left with artworks that are sure to be the perfect additions to their fall home decor. Whether they were painted spookily, traditionally, or personally, all of them helped bring a little taste of fall to our library. The Real Reads book club at the Lockport Branch meets the first Monday afternoon of every month to discuss different nonfiction books throughout the year. In August, we will meet and discuss “Dinner with King Tut: How Rogue Archaeologists Are Re-creating the Sights, Sounds, Smells, and Tastes of Lost Civilizations”, by Sam Kean. Meet with us on October 5th from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, when we’ll share our thoughts and experiences while reading the selected book. Whether you’re excited about the topic, or would like to take a chance on a book you wouldn’t usually pick up, we’d love to have you join us! Bling Bling Sale/Fundraiser at Romeoville Branch This Weekend!

Get ready to buy as you shop this annual sale/fundraiser of previously loved jewelry and assorted bling. For the best pick, come to the Preview Sale on Friday, September 25th, opening at 1:00 pm. For a $10.00 admission charge (kids are free), you will get first dibs on all of our gold, sterling, and better jewelry along with thousands of pieces of costume jewelry and some lovely pre-owned evening and designer bags.

The Sale continues on Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm and on Sunday from 12 noon to 2 pm with no admission charge. Net proceeds benefit the Library. Cash and cards accepted.
